Shotting on Scream 5 looks set to begin later this month as Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox return to the franchise.
The actresses will reprise their fan-favourite roles for the fifth instalment in the iconic horror franchise, along with Courteney’s ex-husband David Arquette.
Variety reports that shooting will begin on Scream 5 later this month at a studio in Wilmington, in North Carolina, USA.
The publication also states that French-Arab singer, model, and actress Sonia Ammar has also joined the cast of the film.
This will be her first major feature film role, having previously appeared in Guillaume Canet’s Jappeloup and the music video for Sam Smith and Calvin Harris’ track Promises in 2018.
New cast members for the fifth instalment of the franchise also include Jack Quaid, YOU star Jenny Ortega, and 13 Reasons Why star Dylan Minnette.
It will be the first film in the Scream series without beloved horror director Wes Craven, who died in 2015 at the age of 76, having also directed iconic scare flicks such as A Nightmare On Elm Street and The Hills Have Eyes.
Ready or Not filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet will take the helm of the fifth Scream outing.
Neve Campbell previously suggested she was “apprehensive” about reprising her role as horror icon Sidney Prescott without Craven’s involvement.
However, she will be back opposite Cox as news reporter Gale Weathers and Arquette, who played Sheriff Dewey Riley in the first four films of the series.
46-year-old Neve confirmed her return to the role of Sidney on Instagram earlier this month.
Sharing a clip of a figure in the iconic ghostface mask, she penned: “Hello again, Sidney ImBack.”
The Scream series’ official Twitter page also wrote: “We always had a thing for ya, Sid! It’s true… Neve Campbell is back to SCREAM.”
Scream 5 is due to be released in cinemas on January 14, 2022.
