Barcelona’s chaotic summer has taken more twists with Quique Setien launched legal action against the club and Josep Maria Bartomeu facing a vote of no confidence.
Former Quique Setien issued a statement confirming his legal action against the club after his dismissal last month.
And, just hours later, the club confirmed a group of club members known as ‘ Mes Que una Mocio ’ – More Than a Motion – triggered a vote of no confidence to prematurely remove president Bartomeu.
The group collected 20,687 valid signatures in support with 16,520 needed in order to open the referendum and move a step closer to ending his term early.
In August, Setien was relieved of his position at Barcelona after the humiliation of losing 8-2 to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Setien exited following just 25 games in charge but it was later revealed Barcelona had not sacked him which meant his contract had been ongoing.
On Wednesday, Setien was finally informed of his sacking and in response, he and his coaching staff are now taking Barcelona to court.
“Quique Setien, Eder Sarabia, Jon Pascua and Fran Soto – we communicate that, due to the latest information published, we want to make the following clarification,” the statement read.
“After a month of absolute silence by the FC Barcelona board of directors, and after various requests by us it is not until yesterday when we finally received the first official communications, by burofax.

“These communications reveal the clear intention of the directors not to comply with their employment contracts dated 01/14/2020.
“In my case, Quique Setién, it is public and well known that on August 17, both the Club and the President announced my dismissal with immediate effect.
“However, it was not until yesterday, September 16 (one month later), when they sent me, for the first time, the written communication of said dismissal (without any settlement).
“Regarding the rest of the coaching staff, they informed us, also yesterday, to our surprise, of a “future relocation” to the Club.”
Meanwhile, Barcelona now have 10 business days to organise the schedule for voting to remove Bartomeu, which should commence in mid-October.
His removal would require a 66% majority and a minimum turnout of 10% of club members.
If successful, the vote would immediately remove Bartomeu with a provisional board overseeing a December election with Victor Font, Jordi Farre, Luis Fernandez and former president Joan Laporta all set to stand.
In his decision to stay at Barcelona, star man Lionel Messi slammed Bartomeu and pinned the blame on him for their struggles
Bartomeu must now await the result of another vote, which, if successful will see him leave with immediate effect.
