Arsenal injury news and expected return dates including Mari and Martinelli

Arsenal got their new season off to the best start possible with a 3-0 win over Fulham on Saturday.
Despite also starting last season with a win there’s a different feel to this Gunners side under Mikel Arteta. The Spaniard has won two trophies since arriving and mood in the camp is good.
Not only has he brought in good names such as Willian and Gabriel Magalhaes, who both shone on their debuts, but he also managed to persuade Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to commit his future to the club.
What’s remarkable still, is that Arsenal recorded the impressive win over Fulham with seven first team stars out injured.
Granit Xhaka picked up a knock in the game and it could be that Arteta is without eight names for the Saturday night fixture.
Let’s assess below…
Granit Xhaka

Injury: Ankle
Expected return date: Saturday
Started in the game against Fulham but took a knock to the ankle and required treatment.
Xhaka was substituted with only 11 minutes to go and should be fine for West Ham.
Pablo Mari

Injury: Ankle
Expected return date: October
Despite playing only a handful of games due to injury problems last season Arsenal tied down the defender permanently. Has this come back to bite them already?
His injury came at the end of last season against Man City and he is only now in the recovery stage.
Outside and running and strengthening will be needed before he can return.
David Luiz

Injury: Neck
Expected return date: 22 September
The Brazilian suffered a neck injury during Arsenal’s Community Shield win over Liverpool.
The Gunners confirmed he would miss Fulham but added he has responded well to treatment.

New signings Willian and Gabriel Magalhaes both hit the ground running against Fulham but Mikel Arteta is still on the lookout for new signings. Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar and Brentford keeper David Raya are two of the names on their radar.

With Gabriel Magalhaes playing so well on his debut it would be foolish to rush him back.
Arsenal are playing Leicester in the Carabao Cup next week and it could be a useful time for him to return.
Emile Smith Rowe

Injury: Shoulder
Expected return date: 3 October
On loan at Huddersfield last season and hoping to make an impact for Arsenal this term.
Smith Rowe, however, will have to wait after struggling with a shoulder problem.
His protective sling should be removed in a few days but he’ll need a few weeks to get back up to speed.
Depending on fitness could play sooner.
Calum Chambers

Injury: Knee
Expected return date: October
Another one of the many defenders Arsenal have sidelined.
Chambers has been out for some time after rupturing his ACL against Chelsea in December.
He is closing in on a return, though, with Arsenal confirming the centre-back is running outside and doing ball work.
Gabriel Martinelli

Injury: Knee
Expected return date: January
The Brazil wonderkid is out until the end of the year.
Martinelli, a favourite among the Gunners fans, suffered a nasty knee cartilage injury.
He should hopefully be back in training by December and playing in the new year.
Sokratis

Injury: Thigh
Expected return date: 28 September
The Greek defender picked up a thigh strain in pre-season but should be back in full training any time now.
Should be available for selection for the Liverpool clash.
That’s if he’s still at the club.
Shkodran Mustafi

Injury: Hamstring
Expected return date: October
Suffered a hamstring injury against Man City in the FA Cup semi-final last season.
The German actually had a small procedure on his leg and is now back running with his team-mates.
Another few weeks and he should be available for selection.
