Dermot O’Leary lifts the lid on being a first-time dad to ‘chilled’ baby Kasper

Television presenter Dermot O’Leary has opened up about being a father to baby son Kasper.

The X Factor presenter, 47, welcome his son on June 24 with wife Dee Koppang, who he wedded in 2012.

Appearing on The One Show on Tuesday evening, Dermot spoke with Alex Jones and Ronan Keating about how lockdown has been treating him.

Alex also asked Dermot what is has been like parenting baby son Kasper.

Dermot said: “Today… He is a lovely little fellow, very chilled, quite relaxed, loves the milk, hates the wind! You know the drill.”

The presenter was also asked about a new book that he has coming out, children’s book Ninja Cat and the Mystery Jewel Thief.

He revealed: “I was lucky enough to get that done at the start of lockdown, finished just before he came along.

“Before you have a kid, you have these things when you think, ‘I will just do it then’. No, not gonna happen.”

Dermot also revealed that his own cat Toto was the inspiration for the book.

“Our cat Toto is adopted from Italy and we realised she was blind quite early doors, but she has incredible reflexes. She will look over and see a bird. She has these incredible reactions.”

He also spoke about how he recently had belongings including his wedding ring and watch stolen from his locker at the gym, but “thanks to Instagram ” they are on to the perpetrator.

The interview comes after Dermot recently admitted he almost quit The X Factor until a chat with Simon Cowell changed everything.

Dermot told The Sun: “I’ve had my state-of-the-union meeting with Cowell as well.

“You’re watching the show one day and going, ‘I’m not in any of this’.

After telling Simon, Dermot revealed: “He goes, ‘Yeah, I totally agree. Yeah, ­absolutely.’ Then you go, ‘Great, now I can just have a great time,’ because he’s great company.”
