Liverpool transfer news: Reds plot Ismaila Sarr bid as Klopp details Gini talks
[ad_1]
Liverpool are hours away from starting the defence of their Premier League title, as they face last season’s Championship winners Leeds United.
The Reds have been relatively quiet in this summer’s transfer window so far, having signed just the one player – Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are still after a couple more reinforcements, though, if reports are to be believed.
Here is the latest Liverpool transfer round-up as the new Premier League season approaches.
Reds lay groundwork for January signing
Liverpool are working on a deal to sign Watford winger Ismaila Sarr in January, according to a report from Football Insider.
The Sengalese forward has been linked with a move to the Reds since the season ended in July, but it could be another few months or so until Liverpool sign the 22-year-old.
Watford, who have been relegated to the Championship, are reportedly holding out for £40m for their record signing.
Sarr netted twice as he starred in Watford’s shock 3-0 win over Liverpool – the Reds’ first defeat of last season.
Klopp provides Thiago transfer update
Liverpool have been linked with Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara all summer long, but Jurgen Klopp was not giving much away on the subject in his latest press conference.
The Spain international is entering the final season of his contract with the newly-crowned Champions League winners Bayern Munich.
However, the German boss was tight-lipped on the Reds’ reported interest, saying: “If I would invent words that would end speculation, I would become rich.
“Did I mention that Thiago is a really good player? It’s nice we’re linked, but that is pretty much it. Good player linked to a big club, that is nice. All that I can say on it.”

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has provided the latest update on the future of midfielder Gini Wijnaldum amid reported Barcelona interest.
New Barelona boss Ronald Koeman is a fan of the Dutch midfielder, having worked with him at international level.
Wijnaldum is entering the final season of his contract at Anfield, but Klopp has insisted everything is fine.
Klopp said: “It’s interesting, since Gini’s here, I think I’ve had five or six hundred talks with him pretty much. That’s exactly the same as always, so nothing else to say about that.”
