Pop singer Harry Styles has reportedly been cast in upcoming thriller Don’t Worry Darling from director Olivia Wilde.
The One Direction star, 26, is reported by Deadline to have been cast in the project after Honey Boy star Shia LaBeouf was forced to drop out due to a scheduling conflict.
Harry would be joining the film after Oscar-nominee Florence Pugh signed on with her Outlaw King co-star Chris Pine.
The film will be directed by and also star Olivia Wilde, who recently found success with her feature-film debut Booksmart.
Little is known about the plot of the film so far, but it is said to be “set in an isolated, utopian community in the 1950s California desert”.
It would mark Harry’s first return to acting since his acclaimed turn in Christopher Nolan war drama Dunkirk.
Deadline reports that studio Warner Bros. has been looking for another project for Styles after his performance in Dunkirk, while Wilde and Pugh were said to have been impressed by Harry’s performance in an early meeting.
It was apparently a mutual agreement that Harry should sign on to the upcoming project.
It is believed that the thriller will start production this Autumn.
Mirror Online has reached out to representatives of Harry Styles for comment.
When Dunkirk premiered back in 2017, Harry told reporters at the premiere in Leicester Square that he was uncertain about his future in acting.
He said: “I’m thinking, what am I doing?
“I feel very lucky to be a part of Dunkirk… I’d do this one again but it may be one and done… I’d do this one again.”
However, he jokingly remarked: “I really enjoyed this. I’ve peaked too soon! There’s nowhere to go.”
There was speculation last year that he had signed on to join the live-action adapataion of Disney’s Little Mermaid as Prince Eric.
However, this proved to not be the case with, with World On Fire star Jonah Hauer-King nabbing the part instead.
Admitting that the part was dicussed, Harry told The Face last year: “I want to put music out and focus on that for a while. But everyone involved in it was amazing, so I think it’s going to be great. I’ll enjoy watching it, I’m sure.”
Don’t Worry Darling does not currently have a release date.
