Liverpool scouting Reyna with Klopp keen on Borussia Dortmund youngster

[ad_1]

Liverpool are reportedly monitoring Giovanni Reyna as manager Jurgen Klopp ponders a future swoop for the Borussia Dortmund prospect.

Reyna is regarded as one of the most promising talents in the Bundesliga and made his debut in January at the tender age of 17.

The attacking midfielder has made a further 17 appearances for the first team and netted his first goal for Dortmund in the German Cup in February.

Reyna also became the third-youngest player to feature in the Champions League knock-out stages and assisted Erling Haaland in a 2-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have made just one signing during a quiet window, and Jan Aage Fjortoft believes Klopp’s focus may be on potential transfers for years to come.

Reyna has made 18 appearances for the Dortmund first team

The former Sheffield United and Middlesbrough striker – now a highly-regarded pundit – confirmed Reyna is on the Reds boss’ radar alongside another Dortmund star.

“I think they [Liverpool] are paying special attention to Dortmund. The American Gio Reyna and, of course, Erling Haaland,” Fjortoft told Empire of the Kop.

The Norway great also claimed Klopp is keen on Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, but described the left-back as “obviously unattainable”.

Would Reyna be a good signing in a future transfer window? Have your say here.

Davies is currently negotiating a new deal with the Bavarian giants, while Haaland is believed to be protected at Dortmund by a £63million release clause.

As such, Klopp may see Reyna as the most realistic transfer target of the trio as his contract at Westfalenstadion expires next June.

Fjortoft also gave his verdict on Liverpool’s transfer activity this summer, which has been limited to the £11.75million acquisition of left-back Kostas Tsimikas.

“We know that Klopp wanted [Timo] Werner,” he added. “We know, not at least in an interview with me after the Tottenham game, that Werner was very fascinated by Klopp and Liverpool.

“Klopp spoke to him and wanted him to be patient. And fair enough, Covid 19 has made the clubs more careful. But after talking, Werner couldn’t wait for Liverpool any longer and signed for Chelsea.

“It seems like Klopp has been told to sell before he can buy…But I will also state that Klopp somehow has become his own ‘enemy’, as he has shown so many times that he can make good players into great players.

“The owners have of course noticed that, and have possibly told him to ‘do it again’!

“Having said that, the owners did once spend a lot of money on Allison and [Virgil] van Dijk – which wasn’t bad!”
