Klopp on Liverpool’s “completely different” player this season as trio hailed

Jurgen Klopp has dismissed Liverpool fans’ concerns over a lack of transfer business this summer, and instead pointed to three players from within his squad who could shine in the coming season.
The Reds have only added left-back Kostas Tsimikas to their Premier League-winning squad since lifting the trophy in July, with the Greek international expected to be back-up to first-choice Andy Robertson in the position.
While other top-flight clubs have been bringing in players, Klopp says Liverpool have been focused on improving those they already have in the squad, including three attacking midfield players who the German is tipping to have a big impact.
“Naby Keita had his most consistent period after the lockdown. In the last nine games he was a really, really important part of this period,” Klopp told BBC Radio Five Live.
“Curtis Jones… I don’t want to put pressure on the boy because he’s so young, but he looked very promising in all the games he played after lockdown. Now in pre-season he’s looked really good and sharp.
“Taki [Minamino], it was always clear that he needs time. He’s had the time now and looks completely different in this moment.
“So there are so many things, but the boys who played already can improve.
“I know we are talking about a team who had 99 [points last season] and 97 the year before, but there are so many things in our game which we can improve.”
Klopp didn’t rule out making any further signings this summer, but stressed that adding new players isn’t always the answer to any issues.
“The solution is not always out there in other clubs who you can sign players from,” he continued.
“Sometimes it is obviously, but it’s all about doing the right thing in the right moment.”
The Reds open their season against Leeds United at Anfield on Saturday evening.
