Thiago Alcantara misses Bayern Munich training amid Liverpool transfer rumours

Thiago Alcantara will miss Bayern Munich’s return to training on Tuesday, according to reports in Germany.
The Spanish midfielder played the full 90 minutes in both of his country’s Nations League matches in the past week – the 1-1 draw with Germany in Stuttgart and the 4-0 win over Ukraine in Madrid.
Thiago, 29, also played 86 minutes of Bayern’s Champions League final win over Paris Saint-Germain in Lisbon last month in what was widely seen as his final appearance for the club after seven Bundesliga titles in seven years.
Liverpool remain strongly linked with the former Barcelona midfielder, although at present there has been no bid forthcoming from Anfield for his services.
That could change in the coming days, with Thiago’s future also being linked to that of Liverpool’s Gini Wijnaldum, who is wanted by his former Dutch international boss Ronald Koeman at Barcelona.
Wijnaldum only has one year left on the Anfield deal he signed when he arrived from Newcastle in 2016, and with no discussions currently taking place over a new one it is becoming increasingly apparent that he could depart this summer.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp would be happy to keep Wijnaldum – who was a key player in the Premier League title success – for the final year of his deal, but the Dutchman’s head seems to have been turned by Catalonia.
Thiago, although exactly not a like-for-like replacement, would bring a balance and quality to Klopp’s midfield for the title defence and a renewed assault on the Champions League.
Bild report that he is not in Munich for Bayern’s return to pre-season training and the squad’s coronavirus test, although that may just be linked to his international exertions and nothing transfer-related.
