The road to staging the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) has not been all smooth for the BCCI. Firstly, it was originally supposed to be held in India and was supposed to begin on March 29. However, the marquee T20 league was indefinitely pushed due to the novel coronavirus-induced pandemic. With this year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup getting postponed, the 13th edition of the IPL will be held in UAE starting from September 19.

Ahead of the start of the much-awaited tournament, the assistant physiotherapist of the Delhi Capitals camp has tested positive for coronavirus. The said individual had twice returned negative results before but tested positive on the third test.

“Delhi Capitals Assistant Physiotherapist has tested positive for COVID-19. He was going through his mandatory quarantine, and had tested negative for his first two tests conducted on arrival in Dubai, and tested positive for the third one,” the franchise informed through a press release.

“He was yet to meet with, and had not been in contact with any players or staff of the franchise. He was isolated immediately, and is currently at the IPL Isolation Facility in Dubai for the next 14 days, at the end of which he will have to produce two negative reports for him to be able to join the Delhi Capitals squad. The franchise’s medical team is in constant touch with him, and wishes him a speedy recovery.”

Meanwhile, the BCCI has officially announced the IPL schedule and according to it, Chennai Super Kings will lock horns with Mumbai Indians as the opening fixture.
