3 potential Chelsea line-ups as Kai Havertz joins Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech

Kai Havertz is now a Chelsea player and continues an excellent summer of recruitment at Stamford Bridge.

His big money move from Bayer Leverkusen has been in the pipeline for weeks and was announced on Friday night.

It means Frank Lampard has yet more attacking talent from which to choose from having already added Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

The Blues, despite their transfer ban, were hardly short of firepower last term.

Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were among the names available to Lampard when fit.

But his team selection is set to get even harder with some impressive personnel to accommodate.

We take a look at three different ways the west Londoners could line up in attack next term.

Option 1:  Kepa, James, Silva, Rudiger, Chilwell, Kante, Mount, Loftus-Cheek, Ziyech, Werner, Havertz

This XI gives Lampard a good sense of balance in attack and defence.

Three natural midfielders ensures Chelsea shouldn’t be left too exposed, but in attack in accommodates their three summer signings.

Werner is likely to play through the middle which perfectly accommodates Ziyech and Havertz who have impressed from wide positions.

Chelsea’s defence is going to be as difficult to predict as their attack, so for the sake of consistency, we’ve gone for the same back five throughout.

Option 2: Kepa, James, Silva, Rudiger, Chilwell, Kante, Loftus-Cheek, Havertz, Pulisic, Hudson-Odoi, Abraham

This is a similarly balance side with the two sitting midfielders allowing those in attack to interchange.

The combination of N’Golo Kante and Loftus-Cheek also ticks all the boxes with possibly the best defensive midfielder on the planet alongside a ball player.

Abraham, despite the arrival of Werner, is still likely to play a crucial role.

And the three behind him will be afforded the license to interchange which should keep defences guessing.

Option 3:  Kepa, James, Silva, Rudiger, Chilwell, Loftus-Cheek, Ziyech, Pulisic, Mount, Havertz, Werner

This XI is about as gun ho as Lampard could go and may be employed in games where they expect to have a lot of the ball.

Loftus-Cheek would be deployed as the sole defensive player, but it could also be Kante.

That would leave effectively a front five with four players likely to influence proceedings behind a central striker – in this case Werner.

Mount’s credentials will be tested this term around some immense quality, but he is a Lampard favourite and could flourish with such gifted players to work with.
