Strictly’s Maisie Smith ‘clashed with BBC bosses over not being next Kylie’

Maisie Smith is hoping her appearance on Strictly Come Dancing will open the door to follow her dream of being the “next Kylie Minogue”.

The 19-year-old EastEnders actress has clashed with bosses at the BBC after they denied her the chance to pursue a record deal, while working on the Walford based soap.

Now Maisie is reportedly hoping that that exposure of a good run on Strictly will persuade the Auntie Beeb bosses to perform a u-turn on their stance and let her follow in the footsteps of the Australian Princess of Pop.

The Sun has reported that at the time when Maisie was looking to forge a music career, she was told that she would potentially lose her role in the BBC soap if she signed a record deal.

Maisie decided to choose acting but it has rankled with her that she was forced to bin her desire to sing.

A source told The Sun that the teenage star “wants to crack the music industry and several labels think she is really marketable.”

They continued to say that with her “girl-next-door looks and down-to-earth personality” there could be a chance “she could be the next Kylie Minogue.”

The source added that the reason why Maisie was not allowed to give the record deal a shot was due to the the “BBC’s commercial rules.”

Maisie has played Tiffany Butcher on Albert Square since 2008 and has often posted videos of herself singing on her social media.

The actress has also released a digital album as she ramps up her hopes of forging a pop career.

The source added that Maisie chose Strictly instead of a record deal as “she can revisit music after the show.”

Maisie reportedly feels, according to the source, that Strictly will “give her an even bigger platform than EastEnders to show off her talents.”

Maisie Smith has ambitions of becoming the new Kylie Minogue

Strictly producers are hoping that Maisie will connect with younger fans who will start watching the show because of her.

She already has form when it comes to winning a Strictly competition as Maisie triumphed in Children In Need version last year, in which she danced with pro Kevin Clifton.

Unfortunately for Maisie, Kevin has now quit the BBC show, so they won’t get the opportunity to see if they could go all the way to winning the Glitterball Trophy.
