Selling Sunset star Mary Fitzgerald has hit back at claims she staged a second wedding ceremony for the cameras.

As one of the stars of Netflix’s real estate hit, Mary’s wedding to Romain Bonnet was a big deal on the show – despite they fact they’d legally tied the knot back in 2018.

Filmed in October 2019, her lavish ceremony – which we see on Selling Sunset – was a feast for the eyes.

But Mary insists it was “absolutely real”, and that they didn’t put it on for the cameras.

“Our wedding was absolutely real,” she told on Fubar Radio, “We invited all of our friends and family.

“We didn’t tell anybody. We just signed the paper for personal reasons and then we wanted to wait until we could have our real wedding.”

Mary hit back at claims she put on her wedding ceremony purely for the cameras

The blonde beauty added: “Romain’s never been married before. A wedding didn’t mean that much to me.

“I was happy to just go on a beach in Bali and I tried very hard to do that actually. No cameras, no anything, just our closest friends.”

Explaining the delay, Mary went on: “Two of my really close friends, Nicole who was the officiant and who signed as the witness, she was trying to get pregnant and then one of my other friends were too, and they can’t go…

“So I was like, I don’t want to do that. And so we just waited until we could plan and do the wedding like we wanted.”

Mary and Romain legally wed in 2018

But Mary isn’t letting the negativity get to her, musing: “It’s not that big of a deal. They’re like, ‘the show’s fake, this is all fake.’

“We’re like, ‘what are you talking about?’ You see all of our family! How can you fake that?

“That was our wedding! People sign a certificate all the time before they do their actual wedding.

She said that the big ceremony we saw on screen was the real deal

Last month TMZ reported that the couple had actually wed before the series began filming.

And a rep told Us Weekly : “Mary and Romain had a civil union a couple of months before the show began filming in June of 2018, but they chose not to tell any of their friends or family, as they were still trying to see if their relationship would work out in the long term.

“In their minds, they weren’t properly married until the wedding that was filmed during the show.”
