Gareth Southgate details Harry Maguire plan going forward after arrest in Greece

Gareth Southgate has revealed he is planning to select Harry Maguire in his England squad next month despite the defender being dropped recently due to the fallout from his arrest in Mykonos.
The Man Utd star was included in Southgate’s initial squad for the Nations League fixtures against Iceland and Denmark taking place within the next week.
However Maguire was promptly removed from the lineup after a Greek court initially found him guilty of three charges, before the conviction was quashed on appeal.
While Maguire’s name is currently cleared of all charges, his status in the Three Lions set-up has not been restored.
But Southgate feels the situation has given the 27-year-old an opportunity to rejuvenate and says he will be considering Maguire next time round.
“It’s clearly been a really difficult period for him and I think the last few days have been very important for him to relax, get away from all the attention and get a rest,” Southgate said on Friday.
“We will absolutely look to get him involved in October.”
Maguire’s spot in the squad has effectively been filled by replacement Conor Coady, who earns his first call-up to the international squad.
The Wolves centre-back beamed with delight when discussing receiving the call from Southgate to inform him he would be involved, and now has a chance to stake his claim for regular selection.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles has also been drafted in along with Jack Grealish who takes the place of injured Marcus Rashford.
Southgate now has six players in his squad who could make their debuts in either Saturday’s clash with Iceland or the tie with Denmark on Tuesday, but feels he has the right blend of youth and experience.
“We’ve got a lot of senior players who are used to training the way we train, playing the way we play,” he said.
“They’re a great influence and welcoming to the lesser experienced ones coming in, but also the young ones coming in have no fear.

“They’ve adapted quickly and added to the level of training and competition, so we’ve really enjoyed the week.”
He added: “Experience is important. You’ve got to balance leadership and international experience with with youth and energy.
“It’s helpful to have those experienced guys in there when young players are coming in. But of course you’ve got to look at how people are on the training pitch and whether they’re up to speed.”
