Coronation Street legend Bill Roache has found a new avenue of communication with fans as he remains away from set.

Elderly actors are staying away for the time being as a Covid precaution taken by ITV, but the Ken Barlow actor isn’t letting that stop him talking to his admirers.

The 88-year-old has put his name down for Celebrity Video Messages, a service where fans can pay a fee to certain big names and receive a greeting from their idol.

From the looks of it, Bill’s made his fans a bunch of happy customers!

He currently charges £35 for a video, and you can expect to receive it within four to seven working days.

In a profile video on the site, Bill explains why he got involved.

“People often come up to me and say, ‘Oh, hello, would you give a quick word to my girlfriend or wish my mother happy birthday?’ he laughed.

“You know something? I’ll always do it, because I find it wonderful to be part of making somebody’s day.

“If you want to do that, send a message to anybody about anything at all, or nothing at all if you want, say what you want me to say, I’ll add some of my words to it, and hey, hopefully we’ll make somebody’s day.

Bill’s a true Corrie veteran

“Let’s do it!”

Bill has been a member of the Corrie cast since its very beginning in 1960, making him the only original cast member remaining.

That also gives him the record for the longest serving male television star in a continuous role.

Still, he’s no intention of quitting the Cobbles any time soon, previously announcing that he’d stick about in Weatherfield until he reached a round century.

Though he did fear that Ken would be killed off before he reached his 100th birthday, after show bosses flirting with the idea of a shooting storyline.

Meanwhile, amid the coronavirus crisis, Bill has insisted that Corrie will never go off the air.

Now that it’s back to filming, social distancing measures have been implemented on set by ITV, but the elderly actors are still staying away.
