I’m A Celebrity is going to make a star out of the castle’s resident cat Lloyd.

The 2020 series is being filmed at Gwrych Castle in Wales after plans to shoot in Australia were derailed by coronavirus restrictions.

The castle is home to a cat named Lloyd, who has become the site’s mascot and is well-known to the visitors who flock to the historic site.

Gwrych Castle is going to be closed until the new year due to the I’m A Celeb filming, but bosses there have reassured Lloyd’s fans that he’s going to be well looked after.

When one worried visitor asked about how Lloyd is going to cope during filming, castle bosses replied: “He will be a star”.

Lloyd is already making the most of his new-found fame – recording a video message with a warning to I’m A Celeb hosts Ant and Dec.

Lloyd is the castle cat and is already famous among visitors

In the video, a voiceover for Lloyd says: “Hello, Lloyd here, Gwrych Castle number one representative.

“Well I’ve been told we are going to have some guests coming soon, the Ant and the Dec apparently and I need to adjust my accent to make them feel comfrotable.”

He then puts on a Geordie accent, adding: “Well hello there boys, my name is Lloyd and I’m a cat and I’m in charge of this here pile of castle so watch yourselves.”

Lloyd, who is a rescue cat, already has a following of devoted fans and has even starred in the castle’s calendar.

Since news broke that the show is going to be filmed at the castle, Lloyd fans have urged castle bosses to get him involved.

One wrote: “Will Lloyd be starring in the show…? I really think he should….Such a rare talent in a cat… he’d be brilliant.”

Another added: “Such a talented cat… This could be your big break Lloyd!!”

A third commented: “I’m sure he’ll get on the television at some point.”

Lloyd has even appeared in the castle’s official calendar

Gwrych Castle will be a challenge for the celebrities as they swap the sunny Australian jungle for winter in Wales.

Much of the site is outdoors as the building fell into disrepair before it was saved and underwent extensive renovation work.

It’s likely the stars could end up camping and competing for hot water in the plunging temperatures.

The line-up has yet to be confirmed, but rumoured stars are said to include Caroline Quentin and Tamzin Outhwaite.
