Striker James Rodriguez who joined Real Madrid for a transfer fee of £63 million in 2014, making him the most expensive Colombian football player and one of the most expensive players at the time, could finally leave the club.

According to Sky Sports, James Rodriguez is likely to join Premier League club Everton as early as Wednesday.

An agreement between the two clubs over the transfer of the Colombian could be less than 48 hours away, with the forward expected to undergo a medical later this week.

The reason for his move is said to be lack of game time at Bernabeu. Rodriguez has made only 14 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions during 2019/20.

A third stint for Rodriguez under Carlo Ancelotti?

At Everton, he will be combining with his former coach Carlo Ancelotti for a third time, having played under him at Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

The Colombian has 12 months left on his Real Madrid contract and is said to be keen to make the move to Everton on a three-year deal.

A couple of weeks ago, Ancelotti was asked about the possibility of signing Rodriguez, but the Everton boss played down the prospect at that time.

“James Rodriguez? I like, I like a lot as a player,” said Ancelotti.

“When I left Madrid, James Rodriguez followed me to Munich. He came to play.

“But he followed me as a rumour to Napoli and now he is following me here to Everton as a rumour.

“I have to be honest, I like him a lot. But he is a Real Madrid player. I think he will still be a Real Madrid player,” Ancelotti had said then.

Meanwhile, Ancelotti has also strengthened his squad by signing the Napoli midfielder Allan, and his club is also in talks with Watford over signing midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Defender Michael Keane has also signed a new five-year deal at Goodison Park, until 2025.
