HIGHLIGHTS
- Varun Aaron is set to play in his second season with Rajasthan Royals
- Varun Aaron said winning IPL title win with Rajasthan Royals will help him make an India comeback
- The Jharkhand pacer said coming back in the national squad is still his biggest motivating force
When Varun Aaron was rising in ranks in the cricketing circles, people would often say that India is all set to get its very own Shaun Tait. He burst into the national team and as expected he would bowl in the excess of 145 kmph plus on a consistent basis.
But ironically, like Shaun Tait, Varun Aaron could also never do justice with his line and length. The Jharkhand pacer played in 9 Tests and as many ODIs before disappearing from the international stage in November of 2015.
In his injury-marred career Aaron has also played 63 first-class matches in which he has scalped 167 wickets. The 30-year-old is now set to play his second IPL season with Rajasthan Royals and making a India comeback is still in his mind, in fact it’s still his “biggest motivation”.
Varun Aaron feels that an IPL trophy win with Rajasthan Royals this year will give wings to his desire of making Team India comeback. Varun Aaron added that he watches himself wearing the Indian blue once again.
“I definitely fancy a chance of coming back, that’s still the biggest motivation. I see myself coming back. For starters, I need to help Royals win the trophy this year and a lot of roads will open up from there,” Varun Aaron said in an interview with Gulf News.
During the course of the interview, Varun Aaron said that he has no plan to reduce his pace, adding that injuries are a part of a fast bowler’s career. Aaron, who has earlier played for Delhi Daredevils (Delhi Capitals), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in IPL, said that physically he is at the top of his game.
‘‘I don’t intend to reduce my pace. Injuries are a part and parcel for a fast bowler’s career…it has taught me a lot of lessons about cricket and life. However, at this stage, I feel at the peak of my fitness again and feel really good that my pace hasn’t reduced at all,” Varun Aaron added.
Notably, Rajasthan Royals had failed to clinch the IPL trophy after winning the inaugural edition in 2008.
