Odisha: A 19-year-old Muslim student from Nayagarh district in Odisha has appealed to reconsider the decision to stop the Jagannath Yatra. Aftab Hussain is a student of BA Economics, who moves to Supreme Court. It is being called the second state of the state on social media. Aftab Hussain has said that his father was also a devotee of God.
Muslim student filed a petition in the Supreme Court
The student has filed an intervention petition in the Supreme Court through his advocate PK Mahapatra. He has asked the Supreme Court to revisit his decision on Jagannath Yatra. The Supreme Court had said on 18 June that in view of protecting public health and the interests of citizens, scheduled travel could not be allowed in Puri, Odisha on 23 June this year. ‘If we allow this, Lord Jagannath will never forgive us.’
Appeal to look into the decision to ban Jagannath Yatra
In his petition, Hussain has spoken of himself being influenced by Lord Jagannath since childhood. He says that his late grandfather Multab Khan was also a devotee of God. Hussain said that his grandfather built the Trinath (Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh) temple at Itamati in 1960 and his family never stopped worshiping the idol of Jagannath. He described himself as loyal to the ‘God of the Universe’. He told, ‘I have never seen the temple because I am not allowed to do it. As a human being, I believe that the creator of the universe is one. 21 other organizations including Hussain have filed an application to reconsider the decision to ban the yatra, which is expected to be heard in the Supreme Court today.
