Jessica Lal Murder Case: Convicted Manu Sharma Released, Lt Governor Allowed

April 30, 1999: Doctors at Apollo Hospital declare that Jessica was brought dead at the hospital.

May 2, 1999: Manu Sharma’s Tata Safari was recovered by the Delhi Police from Noida in UP.

May 6, 1999: Surrender of Manu Sharma in front of a Chandigarh court.

After this, the arrest of 10 co-accused including Vikas Yadav, son of UP leader DP Yadav.

August 3, 1999: Chargesheet against accused in Jessica Murder case under various sections of IPC.

January 31, 2000: Magistrate court hands over the case to the sessions court.

February 21, 2006: Lower court acquits all nine accused for lack of evidence.

March 13, 2006: Delhi Police files an appeal in the High Court.

October 3, 2006: High Court begins hearing on this appeal on a regular basis.

November 29, 2006: High Court reserves its decision.

December 18, 2006: High Court convicts Manu Sharma, Vikas Yadav and Amardeep Singh Gill alias Tony.

Alok Khanna, Vikas Gill, Harvinder Singh Chopra, Raja Chopra, Shyam Sundar Sharma and Yograj Singh acquitted.

December 20, 2006: High Court sentenced Manu Sharma to life imprisonment and fined 50 thousand rupees.

Co-accused Amardeep Singh Gill and Vikas Yadav were sentenced to four years in jail and fined three thousand.

February 2, 2007: Manu Sharma filed an appeal in the Supreme Court.

March 8, 2007: Supreme Court accepts Manu Sharma’s appeal.

November 27, 2007: Supreme Court dismisses Manu’s bail plea.

May 12, 2008: Supreme Court again rejects Manu Sharma’s bail plea.

April 19, 2010: Again upheld Manu Sharma’s life sentence.
