IPL / In addition to Sunday, consideration of having 2 matches on Saturday also, tournament can be organized by dividing 8 teams into two groups.
The BCCI and franchisee had an important meeting in Mumbai on Saturday for the Indian Premier League (IPL). In this, many options regarding IPL were discussed. In this, all the franchises were unanimous on the matter of not holding the tournament abroad. But what will be the future of the tournament this year, it could not be decided even in the meeting. The franchisee did not provide any information about the meeting. But the board source explained the options that came out in the conversation. It was the most discussed shortening of IPL.
First option: The new schedule may also have two matches on Saturday.
According to the old IPL schedule, the current season was to have 6 matches each. Earlier, only Sunday was fixed for this. Now 2 matches can be held on Saturday to conduct 60 matches. If this option is approved then it will be 6 days more and it will be possible to finish the tournament in May. However, the IPL broadcaster’s stance on this will have to be seen. Because the star is not in favor of holding the match at 4 pm on the issue of TRP. At the same time, the players also do not want to play the match at this time. Because at that time the temperature in most cities of India is above 40 degrees.
Second option: grouping 8 teams
The meeting also discussed the division of 8 teams into two groups. If this happens, the top-4 teams from both groups will play the playoffs. However, in this option, how many matches the teams will play in the league stage is not decided. At the same time, the picture regarding the number of matches in the home ground and in the opposition’s house is not clear.
Third option: considering a match at limited centers
Matches should be conducted at only a few centers. That is, instead of having every franchise contest the home ground, these matches should be played at a few stadiums. So that players, support staff and TV crew have to travel at least. This will also reduce the risk of coronavirus outbreak.
What did the franchise say
After meeting BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jai Shah, Punjab’s Honor Ness Wadia said that we are not in a position to tell when the IPL will start. We are not thinking about financial loss or earnings. After two or three weeks, we will take stock of the situation. By then, coronavirus cases will decrease. Wadia made it clear that people’s health is the top priority at the moment. At the same time, Parth Jindal, Co-Honor of Delhi team, said that in the meeting, the board told all the franchisees that the government, BCCI and others are keeping an eye on the situation. We will take a decision on the tournament at the appointed time. Everyone wants IPL.
Board postponed IPL till 15 April
The BCCI suspended the IPL on April 15 after the government’s travel restrictions and refusal to host matches in 3 states. The board also canceled the remaining 2 ODIs of the 3-match series against South Africa.
