This is how you can lock and unlock online
- First go to the official website of Aadhaar uidai.gov.in.
- Here in Aadhaar service sex, you will see the option of Aadhaar lock and unlock, click on it.
- To lock UID number, full name, PIN code has to be entered.
- One time password (OTP) will come on the mobile, which will be Aadhaar locked as soon as it is submitted.
- At the same time, you will need to enter virtual ID and security code to unlock. It will unlock after inserting OTP.

How to lock
- Send SMS to 1947 for OTP on your registered mobile number.
- Send the last four digits of the Aadhaar number in the message GETOTP <SPACE>.
- After sending SMS, UIDAI will get 6 digit OTP via SMS.
- After this, another SMS will have to be sent to 1947 only. Which would be like ‘LOCKUID <SPACE> last four digits of Aadhaar number <SPACE> 6 digit OTP number’.
- Once the SMS is sent, UIDAI will lock your Aadhaar number.
Unlock like this
- Send SMS to 1947 for OTP on your registered mobile number.
- It should be in this format GETOTP <SPACE> last four digits of Aadhaar number.
- After sending the SMS, you will get 6 digit OTP from UIDAI via SMS.
- You have to send another SMS like this UNLOCKUID <SPACE> The last six digits of the virtual ID <SPACE> 6-digit OTP number.
- Once the SMS is sent, UIDAI will unlock your Aadhaar number.
