Italy: Venice Shuts Down For World War II-Era Bomb Removal

ROME: The Second World War bomb was removed in Venice on Sunday. It was defused and dumped into the sea. For this, 3,500 civilians were taken to safer places near Margera Port.
As a precautionary boat, train and bus services were stopped until authorities removed the bomb. Airlines from Marco Polo Airport were also suspended for 4 hours. The bomb was found during an excavation to repair the sewer line in January. It weighed 225 kg and had about 129 kg of Gunpowder.
The operation was conducted in two stages
According to Gianluca delloMonaco, the commander of the army regiment engaged in task of removing the bomb, it was necessary to take precaution. Although the bomb was very old, it could explode. There was also a danger in carrying it from the ship to the sea. The operation was carried out in two phases on Sunday morning. In the first phase all the citizens were taken to a safe place. The second phase saw the removal of the bomb.
