OnePlus 120Hz display will be four times brighter than average Android flagships, could be on OnePlus 8 Pro
- OnePlus has unveiled a new 120Hz display for use in 2020.
- The 120Hz display could be used for the upcoming OnePlus 8 Pro.
- OnePlus is also expected to retain its 90Hz display or the affordable OnePlus 8 series models
speculations have been ripe of the next generation OnePlus flagship phone featuring a 120Hz refresh rate display. While OnePlus hasn’t said anything about OnePlus 8 series phone so far, the company has gone ahead to showcase the display that it might come within a few months. For those who have guessed it, it is the 120Hz refresh rate display that’s expected to show up in 2020 OnePlus phone within a few months
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has unveiled the 120Hz refresh rate display that is expected to show up in the OnePlus 8 Pro later in the year. Even though it isn’t said whether it’s an AMOLED panel like the older OnePlus display, OnePlus confirms that the panel will support a refresh rate of 120Hz. Moreover, the display will come with MEMC technology for smoother video playback, a QHD+ resolution, higher colour accuracy and 4096-levels of automatic brightness control, which OnePlus says is four times brighter than any other flagship Android phone.
“We believe that the smoothest smartphone display must also be able to deliver a superior visual quality and viewing comfort. We’re sure that OnePlus’s new 120Hz Fluid Display will be the best you’ll lay eyes on in 2020,” says Lau in an official statement.
The claim of being the best display is 2020 in believable, given that last year’s 90Hz QHD+ display on the OnePlus 7 Pro was among the best smartphone displays in the industry. Hence, with an even smoother 120Hz refresh rate, the user experience is going to be better.
However, chances are that OnePlus might only use this 120Hz display on the OnePlus 8 Pro while the other models have to settle with the 90Hz screens. This year, rumours suggest that OnePlus is going to come out with three OnePlus 8 series phones, with the most affordable one being the OnePlus 8 Lite and the most premium one being the OnePlus 8 Pro. The Pro variant is expected to get the best bells and whistles from OnePlus, including this 120Hz display.
The regular OnePlus 8 is expected to be a watered-down version of the Pro variant, sporting a 90Hz display with only Full HD+ resolution. This variant is also expected to get curved edges on both sides, similar to the OnePlus 7 Pro. The entry-level OnePlus 8 Lite is expected to get a flat 90Hz Full HD+ display.
