Pichai defends high-skilled immigration, warning visa curbs could hurt U.S. tech innovation
Google and Alphabet chief executive Sundar Pichai has strongly defended the role of immigrants following renewed scrutiny and proposed restrictions on the H-1B work visa program. Speaking publicly, he described the contributions of immigrant talent to the U.S. technology landscape as “nothing but phenomenal.”
Pichai, who once came to the U.S. on an H-1B visa, emphasized that immigration played a key role in building not only his career but the broader success of his company. “If you look at the history of technology development, the contribution of immigrants … has been nothing but phenomenal,” he said.

Immigration has contributed immensely to America’s economic success, making it a global leader in tech, and also Google the company it is today. Disappointed by today’s proclamation – we’ll continue to stand with immigrants and work to expand opportunity for all.
