Israeli PM defends Gaza offensive at UN, slams Palestinian statehood recognition, and issues stern warning to Hamas
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faced a dramatic walkout by UN delegates during his address at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Friday. The protest unfolded as Netanyahu defended Israel’s continued military operations in Gaza, stating the country “must finish the job” against Hamas.
Delegates exited the chamber in protest, leaving Netanyahu speaking to rows of empty chairs. The moment quickly went viral.

Netanyahu addressed Israeli hostages believed to be held in Gaza, claiming his speech was:
“We have not forgotten you, not even for a second. The people of Israel are with you.”
To Hamas, Netanyahu delivered a warning:
Netanyahu criticized Western nations that have recently recognized Palestinian statehood, labeling these decisions:
He accused Western leaders of “buckling under pressure”, while affirming that “Israel will not.”
Netanyahu’s speech comes as he faces war crimes charges at the International Criminal Court (ICC), alongside former Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant. The UN speech served as a high-profile opportunity to push back against international criticism.
While Netanyahu addressed the UN, pro-Palestinian protests erupted nearby. Nidaa Lafi of the Palestinian Youth Movement told demonstrators:
“Israel has chosen a war against every conscientious human being in this world.”
She accused Israel of pursuing “ethnic cleansing” and land theft, with protestors chanting “Shame” in response.
Netanyahu positioned Israel’s war on Hamas as part of a broader global struggle:
“You know deep down that Israel is fighting your fight,” he told world leaders.
Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump publicly opposed Israeli expansion, stating:
“I will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank. It’s not going to happen.”
“There’s been enough. It’s time to stop now.”
