Cricket Legend Opens Modernized Gymkhana to Boost Local Sports and Promote Women’s Cricket
Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar officially inaugurated the newly renovated Shivaji Park Gymkhana (SPG) in a grand ceremony held in Mumbai on Monday. The event attracted a large crowd eager to witness the legend’s presence at this historic sporting venue.
Shivaji Park, a landmark deeply connected with Marathi culture and sports history, marked a significant milestone with the reopening of the revamped Shivaji Park Gymkhana. The iconic venue has undergone extensive renovations over the past year and a half, transforming it into a state-of-the-art facility while preserving its rich heritage.
During the inauguration, Tendulkar reflected on his personal connection with Shivaji Park, saying,
“I remember spending my childhood here. We used to come here to have Vada Pav, but now this gymkhana is ready thanks to the efforts of many, including Raj Thackeray who played a crucial role in permissions and design.”
He encouraged young athletes to make the most of the upgraded facilities:
“I hope boys and girls will work hard, practice well, and make the gymkhana, Mumbai, and the entire nation proud.”

The renovation also includes plans to launch a women’s cricket team, emphasizing the growing prominence of women’s cricket in India. The gymkhana now features dedicated changing rooms and restrooms for female players, particularly those participating in Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) tournaments.
