Zubeen Garg, the renowned Assamese singer and actor, tragically lost his life in a freak scuba diving accident in Singapore. He was rushed to Singapore General Hospital but was declared dead before reaching the facility.
The 52-year-old artist was in Singapore to participate in the North East India Festival, where he was scheduled to perform on September 20 and 21. Known for his versatile singing across Assamese, Bengali, and Hindi films, Zubeen Garg had made significant contributions to music and cinema.
According to sources from a news agency, “He was rushed to Singapore General Hospital, but had already lost his life before reaching there. Crew members attempted CPR at the scene, but their efforts failed. At 5:14 PM Singapore time, doctors at the hospital declared him dead. His body will now be sent for an autopsy.”
The Chief Minister of Assam and the Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, have been informed of the unfortunate incident. Reports confirm that if not today, Zubeen Garg’s body will be brought back to Assam by tomorrow.
Zubeen Garg rose to fame with the song Ya Ali from the Bollywood film Gangster, starring Emraan Hashmi and Kangana Ranaut. He followed it with several hits, including Dil Tu Hi Bataa from Krrish 3.
Besides his singing career, Zubeen acted in and directed several films. His notable superhits include Kanchanjunga, Mission China, Dinabandhu, and Mon Jai.
