NHL: teams consider playing outside

At least four National Hockey League teams are currently exploring the possibility of playing their home games away from home.

They are the Pittsburgh Penguins, Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks and Boston Bruins, according to hockey expert Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported Thursday. The Kings would have been the first to consider the idea several months ago.

Currently, the start date of the 2020-2021 Bettman Circuit season remains undetermined. The league and the players’ union are trying to come to a compromise on the financial parameters of the return to the game. Some members of the Association are protesting in particular against an increased deferral of the payment of salaries scheduled for next year.

Microsoft Teams gets an overhauled calling interface, CarPlay support, and more

Microsoft is overhauling its calling features inside Microsoft Teams today. A new calling interface will now show contacts, voicemail, and calling history in a single location. It’s designed to allow Microsoft Teams to more easily replace your desk phone, with built-in spam call protection, reverse number lookup, and the ability to merge calls.

Microsoft Teams users will also be able to transfer calls between mobile and desktop soon, allowing people to quickly move locations in the middle of an audio or video call. The Teams app will let people join without audio on an additional device, or simply transfer the call and end it automatically on other devices. Microsoft says this particular feature will be available in early 2021.

People who regularly record meetings in Microsoft Teams will also see some new options. You’ll be able to record meetings to SharePoint or OneDrive, providing greater flexibility than being limited to Microsoft’s Stream service. That will also make it easier to share calls or transcripts with people outside a Teams organization.

Finally, Microsoft is also bringing CarPlay support to Microsoft Teams. This will allow cars with built-in CarPlay to control Teams and for people to use Siri to initiate or answer calls. It’s not clear when Microsoft Team will support Android Auto in the future, though.

Microsoft Teams Taking on Zoom With Free All-Day Video, Voice Calling

Microsoft Teams is adding a free all-day video and voice calling option to take on platforms such as Zoom and Google Meet. The free offering will help users connect with up to 300 participants for as long as 24 hours. Microsoft made the new announcement just days after Teams rival Zoom announced that it would temporarily lift its 40-minute meeting limit on Thanksgiving Day. In addition to free all-day calling, Microsoft Teams is getting updated with the ability to create a group chat with up to 250 people and see up to 49 members simultaneously during virtual conversations.

As reported by The Verge, Microsoft Teams is set to attract Zoom users by starting the new all-day video calling option. The company confirmed the development through a blog post.

“To help you stay connected in the coming months, you will be able to meet for 24 hours with up to 300 participants until further specified,” the company said.

Users can join a virtual call on Microsoft Teams without requiring a Microsoft Account or the Teams app. A host on Microsoft Teams can invite individuals through a link that can be accessed directly from a Web browser. This works similar to Zoom, Google Meet, and other similar video conferring platforms.

Microsoft is also updating Teams with the ability to start communicating with a group of up to 250 people at once. The app is also getting seamless syncing of existing chats between phone and computer.

To make the experience look quite similar to Zoom that already shows 49 members in a single window, Microsoft Teams desktop and Web apps are also adding support to see up to 49 friends or family members in a gallery view or through the Together Mode feature that was introduced in June to reduce fatigue.

Microsoft is additionally bringing support to upload and share photos and videos directly from a computer in any personal or group chat. Further, the Teams desktop and Web apps are getting the option to let professionals add their personal account and chat with or call their friends and family.

In addition to the changes planned for desktop users, Microsoft is updating the Teams mobile app with a feature to let users communicate with contacts who don’t have it installed on their phones. The recipients will get messages via SMS. They will also be able to respond to those messages just as a regular text message. Furthermore, SMS participants will get a link to download the Teams app on their phones.

Microsoft is initially bringing SMS support to the Teams app in preview for its users in the US and Canada. The app is also getting the option to add group events from chats to the device’s calendar, receive task and location updates in the activity feed, and add photos to personal Safe.

The Teams app for Android and iOS is also getting the option to let your loved ones receive automatic location alerts when you leave or arrive at a designated location. The app also added a location sharing feature earlier this year.

In October, CEO Satya Nadella announced that Microsoft Teams surpassed the mark of 115 million daily active users. The platform was initially designed as a communication solution for businesses. However, as we all are staying indoors due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Redmond company is transforming Microsoft Teams as a one-stop solution for end consumers — alongside a compelling option for enterprise customers.

Microsoft Teams takes on Zoom with free all-day video calling on the web

Microsoft is making a big push to entice fans of Zoom over to Microsoft Teams with a new all-day video calling option that can be used for free. While the software giant launched Microsoft Teams for consumers on mobile earlier this year, it’s now bringing Teams’ friends and family features to the desktop and web allowing you to create a Microsoft Teams meeting for up to 300 friends and family that can run all day free of charge.

You won’t need a Microsoft Account or the Microsoft Teams app to join calls, as you can join free via a web browser. Microsoft Teams will also support seeing up to 49 friends or family members in a gallery view or through its Together Mode feature that puts you side by side in a virtual environment.

Microsoft Teams on the web.

With Thanksgiving just a week away, it’s clear Microsoft is positioning Teams as a way for families to connect virtually during the pandemic. That’s particularly relevant, as officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have recommend that people should not travel for Thanksgiving. Zoom surged in popularity earlier this year after thousands of people flocked to the video calling service to connect to coworkers, fellow students, or even friends and family.

Teams might be a little late to the consumer party, but with a long 24-hour limit on meeting length and an easy to use web app it suddenly looks like Microsoft is offering the best way (until it imposes limits) to connect with friends and family free of charge. Zoom has its own 40-minute limit, which the company is lifting temporarily for Thanksgiving, and other competitors like Google Meet (60-minute limit) and Cisco Webex (50-minute limit) also have similar restrictions.

To get started as a meeting host all you need to do is visit Microsoft’s new Teams web link and sign in with a Microsoft Account. Once you’ve created a video meeting you can simply share the link with friends and family, and they’ll be able to join via the web free of charge without needing a Microsoft Account.

Giants in NFC East hunt: Inside look at four teams’ schedules

The Giants are still in the hunt in the moribund NFC East. Here’s the remaining schedule for the four teams:

Philadelphia Eagles

Record: 3-5-1

Remaining schedule: at Browns, vs. Seahawks, at Packers, vs. Saints, at Cardinals, at Cowboys, vs. Washington

Remaining opponents’ winning percentage: .571

Injuries: Decimated by injuries early in the season, the Eagles got back offensive starters Lane Johnson, Dallas Goedert, Alshon Jeffery and Miles Sanders against the Giants but still lost. Zach Ertz and DeSean Jackson remain sidelined.

The skinny: Criticized for playing for a tie against the Bengals, that non-loss could be the difference-maker. The Eagles lead by 1 ½ games but have the hardest remaining schedule by virtue of being the only team facing the Packers and Saints. Carson Wentz has thrown a NFL-high 12 interceptions, so responsibility falls on a relatively healthy defense.

New York Giants

Record: 3-7

Remaining schedule: Bye, at Bengals, at Seahawks, vs. Cardinals, vs. Browns, at Ravens, vs. Cowboys

Remaining opponents’ winning percentage: .528

Injuries: It took a while, but the Giants are learning how to play without Saquon Barkley (season-ending torn ACL in Week 2). Rookie second-round pick Xavier McKinney should make his debut after the bye and return from IR with Oshane Ximines and Tae Crowder to boost an already overachieving defense.

The skinny: Seven of 10 games have been decided in the final two minutes. The Giants have held double-digit leads in six straight games but came away just 3-3. Everything here is on the upswing, from Daniel Jones’ ball security to the run-blocking offensive line to the patchwork secondary.

Dallas Cowboys

Record: 2-7

Remaining schedule: at Vikings, vs. Washington, at Ravens, at Bengals, vs. 49ers, vs. Eagles, at Giants

Remaining opponents’ winning percentage: .375

Injuries: The Cowboys have started four quarterbacks. Dak Prescott isn’t coming back this season, but veteran Andy Dalton is ready to go. Starting tackles Tyron Smith and La’el Collins are out for the year.

The skinny: The return of the three-time Pro Bowler Dalton plus only one game remaining against a winning team (Ravens) gives the Cowboys a puncher’s chance after the failed necessities of starting quarterbacks Ben DiNucci and Garrett Gilbert. Ezekiel Elliott hasn’t had a 100-yard rushing game all season and has scored two touchdowns since September ended.

Washington Football Team

Record: 2-7

Remaining schedule: vs. Bengals, at Cowboys, at Steelers, at 49ers, vs. Seahawks, vs. Panthers, at Eagles

Remaining opponents’ winning percentage: .462

Injuries: Quarterback Kyle Allen is out indefinitely, but Alex Smith actually represents an upgrade as his 55 pass attempts Sunday showed he is truly back from a devastating leg injury. Defensive tackle Matt Ioannidis and safety Landon Collins are done for the season.

The skinny: Washington will be going for sweeps against the Cowboys and Eagles — their only wins thus far — but was swept by the Giants. The lack of a running game creates a one-dimensional offense. The defense has allowed the fewest passing yards in the NFL, sparked by Kendall Fuller’s breakout season.

A new identity for the McGill University men’s teams

McGill University on Tuesday unveiled the new names for its men’s sports teams, which will now be called the Redbirds.

This identity will replace the previous one – the Redmen – which had been abandoned in May 2019. McGill considered it offensive to members of the First Nations. Late last year, the University asked the community for help in finding names for its teams.

  • Listen to Jean-Charles Lajoie’s column with Benoit Dutrizac on QUB Radio:

In a statement issued in the morning, she said she was “keen to honor the traditions and history of the Recreation and Sports Department, while uniting her community.”

“This decision comes at the end of a long process of consultation, discussion and deliberation,” said Fabrice Labeau, co-chair of the naming committee for men’s sports teams. The committee studied several denominations during its mandate and finally opted for The Redbirds, because the name evokes the Recreation and Sports Department both in what it has been in the past and in what it is. today.”

The Committee received 1238 proposals containing a total of 230 names.

“I have no doubt that our male athletes will continue to perform and bring honor to the University for years to come,” said Hubert T. Lacroix, University graduate and co-chair of the naming committee. Our sports teams are a vital part of the McGill community and experience, and I have no doubts that we can all be proud of this new name. ”

Unequivocal vote

In November 2018, McGill students had backed a name change 78.8% in a referendum in which 5,856 people agreed to vote.

“This result shows a need for speed. People need the name to change now, ”said Tomas Jirousek, the Indigenous Affairs Commissioner of the McGill Student Association at the time.

Returning to the Redbirds, the University recalled the past use of the name of several of its clubs, teams and sporting events: the Red Birds Ski Club, founded in 1928 by three McGill graduates; the McGill Nordic Ski Team in the early 1930s; McGill baseball roster of the late 1990s and the beginning of the next. Additionally, the Recreation and Sports Department traditionally hosted a basketball tournament in the fall known as the Redbird Classic.

On the women’s side, McGill continues to use the name “Martlets” for its various teams.

Jillian Rossi Teams Up With TikTok’s Finest For The New Self-Love Anthem ‘So What’

We all have our ‘baggage,’ and to that, singer Jillian Rossi asks – so what? To help deliver this message, the rising pop artist has recruited Brooklynne Webb, Hope Schwing, and more of TikTok’s finest for her new music video.

2020 is going to end on a positive note if Jillian Rossi has anything to say about it. And she says quite a lot in “So What,” the new video out today (Nov. 16). In the visual, the rising pop songstress finds herself in a hazy dance studio, gazing contemplatively into a mirror, searching for greater truth. As it turns out, all Jullian needs is what is staring back at her face. “You’ve got your baggage / and I’ve got mine / so what?” she sings on the chorus, celebrating how we’re often “diamonds / hardened by our scars,” a poignant observation that our value is sometimes in the things others would call “flaws.”

Jillian isn’t alone in delivering this message. “So What” features appearances from more than fifteen TikTok influencers, including Brooklynne Webb, an influencer known for sharing messages of body positivity on the platform. Danielle Cohn, Ellie Zeiler, Hope Schwing, Colton Macaulay, Sienna Mae Gomez, and other TikTok superstars appear throughout the video, including a montage where they hold up affirming messages for those who need to hear them. “Stay true, never give up.” “Life is tough but so are you.” “Don’t let other peoples’ beliefs and opinions affect your decisions. Do what makes you happy.” “The Bravest thing you can do is be yourself.” Jillian tells HollywoodLife that she hopes “this song and video inspires listeners to start to truly & unconditionally love yourself for how beautiful you are!!”

Jillian Rossi is here to help you love yourself. (Claire Schmitt)

Hailing from Long Island, Jillian grew up enamored with the pop stars of the early 2000s, knowing that her destiny was to be on the stage, entertaining audiences through song like her heroes. Honing her craft under the tutelage of Billy Joel, Kara Dioguardi, and other legendary artists, Jillian continues to build a buzz – and a following – with her remarkable brand of songwriting. Over the past two years, she has performed at various venues, including The House Of Blues, The RED Room, and The Loft. She even sang for over 30,000 Red Sox fans at Fenway Park.

“So What” followers her previously released single, “txt me when u get here.” The upbeat jam contains some instantaneously catchy lyrics and an explosive dance beat, a pairing that, when together, produces a clever take on the perils of modern romance. Fans can expect to hear more such bops soon, as Jillian is prepping a full-length project and a slew of new singles.

“So What” is out now.
