‘Bollywood stayed mum, a Punjabi star had to deal with Kangana Ranaut’: Taapsee, Swara react to Twitter sentiment

Even as Diljit Dosanjh took on Kangana Ranaut after she misidentified an elderly woman protester as ‘Shaheen Bagh dadi’ Bilkis Bano and claimed that she can be hired for ‘100 rupees’, Twitter claimed that it took a Punjabi star to take a stand while Bollywood preferred to stay mum during these past tumultuous months. Actors like Taapsee Pannu and Swara Bhaskar have reacted to the charge.

“Tragic state of Bollywood – even after so much abuse & slander they kept mum on Kangana. Finally a Punjabi Singer / Actor had to deal with the guttermouth; reveals just how hollow, impotent & supine Bollywood has become. Not being able to stand up for the nation – or for itself. Not being able to stand up for the nation – or for itself,” a person wrote on Twitter, pointing to the combative tweets by Kangana over the months at the expense of top Bollywood personalities.

He also retweeted another comment, “#KangnaRanaut has been calling names and mudslinging hindi film industry for months now. She has taken names of top stars producers directors and called them druggies, molesters and what not. No one spoke @diljitdosanjh has taken this bully by the horns. BRAVO SHER-PUTAR.”

Actors Swara Bhasker and Taapsee Pannu, who had been embroiled in an off-and-on spat with Kangana after she targeted them during an interview, responded to the charge. “Not everyone kept mum,” wrote Swara as she tagged Taapsee Pannu and Richa Chaddha.

Taapsee, in turn, wrote, “That’s always been the problem here. Hum kuch mayeno mein “outsiders” hi rahenge na 🙂 #AProudOutsider.” Swara and Taapsee were among those in Bollywood who came out in Diljit’s support as exchange between him and Kangana became vitriolic. Kangana, misidentified a woman farmer from Punjab as Bilkis Bano, the octogenarian who made international headlines during the anti-CAA protests earlier this year in the Delhi neighbourhood of Shaheen Bagh. She shared a tweet alleging that the ‘Shaheen Bagh dadi’ also joined the farmers’ agitation over the new agri laws at various border points of the national capital.

She retweeted the post with pictures of two elderly women, including Bilkis Bano, and wrote that the “same Dadi” who featured in Time Magazine was “available in 100 rupees”. Diljit shared a BBC interview of the woman who Kangana had wrongly identified as Mahinder Kaur.

“Listen to this with proof, Kangana. One shouldn’t be so blind… You are saying just about anything,” the actor wrote in Punjabi, a tweet that led to the floodgates opening.

Swara Bhasker calls Diljit Dosanjh ‘a star’ amid his spat with Kangana Ranaut, Richa Chadha says one must not fight with Punjabis

Diljit Dosanjh and Kangana Ranaut’s ugly war of wards on Twitter over farmers’ protests caught the attention of not just their fans but also their industry colleagues. Hours after the two refused to take a breather, actors Swara Bhasker and Richa Chadha took to Twitter to show their support for Diljit and hailed him for his stance against Kangana.

While Kangana opposed farmer protests and called them ‘anti-nationals’, Diljit slammed her for disrespecting farmers and elderly women besides giving her a mouthful in Punjabi.

Taking sides with Diljit, Swara Bhasker tweeted, “Diljit Dosanjh is a STAR! Dil-jit actually!” She also reacted to another tweet about their fight and said, “Well done @diljitdosanjh.”

Richa Chadha also took to Twitter to show her support for Diljit. She wrote in Punjabi, “Seriously, tussi saareyan nu public interest vichon daas ne aa , pubjabiyan naal lado ni plz (Seriously, I am telling this to all of you in public interest. Don’t get into fights with Punjabis please).”

She even replied to a follower who said, “Aaho! But Paaji Chaa Gaye aini thet punjabi ki mainu apni Bebe kol jaa translation liti (Diljit is shining today. He used such pure Punjabi that I had to take help of my granny for translation).” Relying to her in the same vein, Richa said, “Tussi consistency vekho bass. O change ni honde (Just look at the consistency. He doesn’t change).”

Taapsee didn’t comment on Diljit or Kangana but was hinting at farmers protest as she retweeted one of her own tweets.

Kangana said that an elderly woman, who was seen protesting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) at Shaheen Bagh in Delhi in December-March, was seen in the ongoing farmers’ protest in Delhi as well. Diljit shared a video story by an international news channel that said Kangana misidentified at the farmers’ protest in the national capital as Bilkis Bano, famously known as “Shaheen Bagh dadi”. The video actually featured a Bhatinda-based elderly woman Mahinder Kaur, who according to the news channel was misidentified by Kangana.

While Kangana called him by various names like ‘dumbo’ and ‘Karan Johar ke paltu’, he called her “Bad Dimag Batmeez” and said that she shouldn’t insult another woman, being a woman herself.

Kangana Ranaut-Diljit Dosanjh fight turns ugly: She calls him Karan Johar’s pet, he says she has no ‘tameez’

After Diljit Dosanjh’s tweet criticising Kangana Ranaut, she too has responded with barbed words. Kangana took to Twitter on Thursday, calling Diljit filmmaker Karan Johar’s pet and herself a lioness.

“Ooo Karan johar ke paltu, jo dadi Saheen Baag mein apni citizenship keliye protest kar rahi thi wohi Bilkis Bano dadi ji Farmers ke MSP ke liye bhi protest karti hue dikhi. Mahinder Kaur ji ko toh main janti bhi nahin. Kya drama chalaya hai tum logon ne? (Karan Johar’s pet, the grandma who was protesting in Shaheen Bagh for her citizenship, the same grandma was seen protesting with the farmers. I don’t even know who is Mahinder Kaur. What is this new drama?) Stop this right now,” she wrote in a tweet.

In another tweet, she wrote, “Listen you vultures, do not consider my silence as my weakness. I see how you are instigating the innocent by lying to them and are using them. Just like Shaheen Bagh, the truth behind these protests will soon be out. Then I will write a brilliant speech and leave with your faces black,” she wrote and signed off as ‘Babbar sherni’.

Diljit retaliated saying, “Tuneh Jitne Logon Ke Saath Film Ki Tu Un Sab Ki Paaltu Hai…? Fer To List Lambi Ho Jaegi Maalko Ki..? Eh Bollywood Wale Ni PUNJAB Wale aa .. Hikk Te Vajj Sadey Jhooth bol kar logo ko badhkana aur emotions se khailna woh toh aap achey se janti ho (Are you the pet of all the people you have worked with? Then the list of your bosses must be long. This is not Bollywood but Punjab. Manipulating people by lying and playing with their emotions is something you know very well).” He added that he is not from Bollywood but from Punjab and will give it back to her manifold. He said that he is not the one struggling in Bollywood. It’s film producers who bring him work, asking him to join their movies.

Kangana responded, “Oh chamche chal, tu jinki chat chat ke kaam leta hai, main unki roz bajati hoon, jayada mat uchal,m ain Kangana Ranaut hoon tere jaisi chamchi nahin jo jhoot boloon, maine sirf aur sirf Shaheen Baag wali protestor pe comment kiya tha (You are a bootlicker, the one you try to please, I take them to task everyday. I am Kangana Ranaut, not a bootlicker like you who would lie. I only spoke about the Shaheen Bagh protestor), if anyone can prove otherwise I will apologise.”

Diljit said that Kangana has no manners. “Bolan Di Tameez Ni Tainu.. Kisey di Maa Bhen Nu.. Aurat Ho Ke Dujeyq Nu Tu 100 100 Rs. Wali das di an.. SADE PUNJAB DIAN MAAVA SADEY LAI RAB NE.. Eh tan Bhoonda De Khakhar nu Shedh Leya Tu.. PUNJABI GOOGLE KAR LI (You have no sense how to speak to someone’s mother or sister. You are a woman yourself and are calling another one would work for Rs 100. Our mothers of Punjab are like God to us. You have poked the hornet’s nest. Google this Punjabi now,” he wrote.

Earlier in the day, Diljit had tweeted at Kangana, slamming her for her comment on an elderly Sikh woman. Kangana had seemingly misidentified her as Bilkis Bano of Shaheen Bagh protests, saying that she had also joined the farmers’ protests for just Rs 100. She soon deleted the tweet.

Sharing a video of the Sikh woman, Mahinder Kaur, Diljit had said that Kangana ‘says anything’ and that one ‘shouldn’t be so blind.’

In an another tweet, Kangana said that Mahinder Kaur was brought into the controversy from ‘don’t know where’, not accepting that she had featured in the original tweet that she had posted. “I had only commented on Shaheen Baag dadi cos they instigated riots there even that tweet was deleted almost immediately, I don’t know from where they brought another elderly lady in to the picture and now endlessly spreading lies.Vultures trying to instigate mob against a woman,” she wrote.

Kangana has been sent a legal notice as well by advocate Harkam Singh for her comments against Mahinder Kaur. In the legal notice dated November 30, he suggested Kangana should have authenticated information before posting it on social media and demanded an apology over her tweets, in which she allegedly misidentified the woman.

Diljit Dosanjh slams Kangana Ranaut for her tweet against elderly Sikh woman: ‘Shouldn’t be so blind, she says anything’

Diljit Dosanjh has joined multiple Punjabi stars as they rebuked actor Kangana Ranaut’s latest Twitter fiasco. Kangana had shared a tweet, misidentifying an elderly Sikh woman during the farmers’ protest as Bilkis Bano of Shaheen Bagh. She had written that the woman had joined the protest for a meagre price of Rs 100.

While Kangana soon deleted the tweet, the damage was already done. After Prince Narula, Sargun Mehta, Himanshi Khurana and others, Diljit, too, has slammed Kangana as someone who ‘says anything’.

Sharing a video interview of the elderly woman, whose name is Mahinder Kaur, Diljit tagged Kangana’s Twitter account, showing her the proof. “Respected MAHINDER KAUR JI Ah Sunn La Ni With Proof @KanganaTeam Banda Ena V Ni Anna Hona Chaida.. Kush v Boli Turi jandi aa ..(Listen to this proof, @KanganaTeam. One should not be this blind. She keeps says anything),” he wrote in his tweet.

In the interview by BBC, Mahinder and her other friends at the protest said that Kangana should come and work in the fields for a day to know what farmers have to do. “We will give her Rs 100 in the evening,” said a woman in the video.

Kangana has been slapped with a legal notice as well. Advocate Harkam Singh, in the legal notice dated November 30, suggested Kangana should have authenticated information before posting it on social media and demanded an apology over her tweets, in which she allegedly misidentified the woman.

“It is to inform you that the said lady is not a fake lady. Her name is Mahinder Kaur and she belongs to Bathinda. She is the wife of farmer Labh Singh Nambardar. She in her life, has always remained connected with fields and filed work and she is the wife of a farmer,” the notice said.

Sona Mohapatra hails court’s decision in favour of Kangana Ranaut, calls demolition of her office ‘blatant misuse of power’

The Bombay High Court on Friday quashed the order issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), directing demolition of actor Kangana Ranaut’s office for alleged structural violations, and said that she will be compensated for the damages. The verdict was hailed by singer Sona Mohapatra, who called the partial demolition a ‘vindictive and malicious’ act.

“Yes. This act was a blatant misuse of power, vindictive & malicious & cannot be condoned at any level. (Rock on emoji) to the #Bombay high court for saying this & doing the right thing,” she wrote on Twitter.

Kangana put out a video thanking the judiciary after the court’s verdict in her favour. She wrote on Instagram, “When individual stands against the government and wins, it’s not the victory of the individual but it’s the victory of the democracy. Thank you everyone who gave me courage and thanks to those who laughed at my broken dreams. It’s only cause you play a villain so I can be a HERO.”

On Friday, the division bench of Justices SJ Kathawalla and Riyaz Chagla held that the demolition was ‘actuated by malafide’ and was in complete disregard of Kangana’s rights. The court also expressed its disapproval of the civic body using ‘muscle power’ against a citizen.

The BMC partially demolished Kangana’s office in Mumbai, citing 14 alleged structural violations. She then sued the corporation and its officials, claiming Rs 2 crore in damages.

On September 11, two days after the demolition, Kangana had said that she does not have the finances to rebuild her office. “I had my office opening on 15th Jan, shortly after corona hit us, like most of us I haven’t worked ever since, don’t have money to renovate it, I will work from those ruins keep that office ravaged as a symbol of a woman’s will that dared to rise in this world,” she had written on Twitter.

‘Only because you played a villain, I could be a hero’: Kangana Ranaut reacts after Bombay HC quashes demolition notice

Actor Kangana Ranaut has responded after the Bombay High Court held that the action of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) to demolish a part of her bungalow in September was “actuated by malafide” and was in complete disregard of her rights. It also quashed the demolition order passed by a ward officer of the civic body.

Kangana thanked her followers for their support and wrote, “When individual stands against the government and wins, it’s not the victory of the individual but it’s the victory of the democracy. Thank you everyone who gave me courage and thanks to those who laughed at my broken dreams. Its only cause you play a villain so I can be a HERO.”

A division bench of Justices S J Kathawalla and R I Chagla noted that the action undertaken by the civic body leaves hardly “any manner of doubt” that it was unauthorised. The bench said that the action was initiated after Kangana compared Mumbai with Pakistan occupied Kashmir. In this regard, the bench said irresponsible statements made by an individual should be ignored, howsoever distasteful those may be, and no action can be taken against such individual by resorting to colourable exercise of power and causing injury to that individual or his property by the State or any of its instrumentalities.

Court also asked the actor to show restrain while commenting on other people on social media and otherwise.

Kangana had sought Rs 2 crore in damages from the BMC and urged the court to declare BMC’s action illegal. On the issue of compensation, the bench said it was appointing a valuer who would hear the petitioner and the BMC on monetary damages caused to her due to the demolition.

Kangana Ranaut’s comments on artist’s tweet about depression cause internet storm, Twitter calls her ‘most toxic’

After ridiculing Deepika Padukone and Ira Khan’s struggle with depression, Kangana Ranaut was caught up in a Twitter war with a 22 year-old artiste named Priyanka Paul, on Wednesday.

Kangana started her morning by tweeting against IPS officer D Roopa Moudgil. The latter was caught in a spat with Twitter handle True Indology over the origin of firecrackers and whether they were used in ancient India. When Twitter suspended True Indology’s account, Kangana began championing for its return and bashing Moudgil online. She went so far as to call her appointment in the IPS ‘side effects of reservations.’

“Side effects of reservations, when unworthy and undeserving gets the power they don’t heal they only hurt, I don’t know anything about her personal life but I guarantee that her frustration is stemming out of her incompetence,” Kangana had tweeted. Priyanka, who uses Twitter under username @artwhoring, tweeted against Kangana.

“Honestly starting to think it was better when there were less ‘outsiders’ in bollywood (they’re all bland savarnas anyway whats the difference) atleast the others aren’t spewing garbage like this crackpot here,” she had written. Kangana did not reply to this tweet by Priyanka but another in which she talked about her mental health.

Priyanka had retweeted a tweet about all the challenges that mental health patients face, such as self harm, suicidal thoughts and public meltdowns. “Somedays I’ve done all of them together and that’s what i call multi-tasking,” she wrote about herself. Kangana chose to respond by writing, “Apni halat dekho kuch lete kyun nahin? Self admittedly Suicidal ho, toxic ho, creepy looking bhi, aisi kaun si kami hai jo aap mein nahin? Mujhe gyan mat do mujhse gyan lo (See the state of yourself. Why don’t you do something about it? You admit to being suicidal, are toxic and look creepy as well. What faults do you not have? Don’t give me advices, take one from me), change that hairstyle asap and learn to meditate.”

Kangana called Priyanka a ‘weirdo’ and ‘the kind of woman I want in my wild house parties’. When Priyanka told her off by writing ‘Go f**k yourself’, Kangana responded, “No no no I am hot and sexy I don’t do it myself.”

Twitter users expressed disappointment with not just at Kangana’s choice of words but also how she chose to react to issue of mental health. Her statements were echoed by her fanpages and followers, who flocked to Priyanka’s Twitter page to abuse, fat-shame and troll her for what they called ‘making a show’ out of depression.

Later, Kangana blocked Priyanka on Twitter. One Twitter user wrote, “Congratulations! You can finally have a normal sleep. Been watching and reporting her tweets but it gives shivers how low one can go just to show hate.” A former fan tweeted, “Yes break ups hurt but did u ever used to be a Kangana Ranaut fan?”

Also read: When Sushmita Sen offered to help Renee find out about her biological parents, got this response from her

Others also called her out for ridiculing someone with mental health issues and highlighted the potential harm that they could cause to someone dealing with the same. “@KanganaTeam mocks and derides someone who has acknowledged they have contemplated suicide and self-harm. She makes fun of her looks and tells her to meditate. Anyone who ridicules the suffering of others is themselves in dire need of help. Hope she gets it soon.”

Kangana, as always, seems unfazed by the criticism coming her way. She continues to call them ‘depressed and suicidal snowflake feminists’.
