A solution to avoid the physical deconditioning of seniors

Due to the pandemic, many older people are no longer able to participate in physical activity.

While many prefer to avoid leaving the house for fear of COVID-19, others, who had activities in day centers, can no longer attend because they have been canceled.

To try to prevent the physical deconditioning of seniors, the CISSS de la Montérégie-Est has set up a unique program in partnership with the Nautilus Plus fitness centers.

Thanks to this program, kinesiologists visit the elderly to get them moving.

“People are not aware of all the indirect negative consequences of COVID. The deconditioning of the elderly is one of them. Unfortunately, seniors who are in RPPs [résidences privées pour aînés] are removed from their outdoor activities. Everything has been cut and sometimes they are even confined to their rooms, so unfortunately they do not move any more ”, deplores Marie-Claude Joyal, kinesiologist at Nautilus Plus.

Dozens of seniors are currently taking advantage of these visits and the pace may increase soon.

  • Songz appears to punch the officer in the head before he’s head butted
  • The musician was arrested and reportedly charged with two misdemeanors and a felony, assaulting a police officer

Trey Songz was reportedly arrested after getting into a violent fight with police on Sunday at the AFC Championship Game in Kansa City, Missouri.

A police officer was seen tackling the 36-year-old singer and rapper in a video obtained by TMZ.

Though the events leading up to the fight aren’t shown in the video, fans nearby claimed the police officer was the own at fault.

Police altercation: Trey Songz was seen being tackled by a police officer at the AFC Championship Game in Kansas City, Missouri, on Sunday in video obtained by TMZ; seen in 2019

The video, which was shot from several rows behind where Songz was seated, shows him sitting in his chair as a police officer stands in the row in front of him.

As the officer is grappling with Songz, the singer seems to connect a punch with the officers head.

He can also be hearing shouting, ‘Get off of me!’

Another man standing to Songz’s right, who appears to be part of the venue’s security staff, also leans down to try to subdue Songz.

As Songz (real name: Tremaine Neverson) stands up and seems to try to free himself, the police officer puts his head down and tries to knock him down while Songz tries to put him in a headlock.

‘Get off of him!’ shouts one person, while another can be heard screaming, ‘What the f***, he didn’t do it!’

‘Arrest the cop!’ a third voice cries out.

A witness to the assault claimed that fans a few rows behind Songz had been taunting him, and he had asked them to cool down.

They said that the officer went after Songz without warning, rather than the hecklers, which seemed to take the rapper off guard before he started defending himself.

Songz was reportedly handcuffed and arrested once additional officers arrived and were able to separate him and the police officer, who appeared to be white.

Caught in the crossfire: Fans say people behind Songz heckled him, and after he asked them to calm down, the police officer started the physical confrontation without any warning or reason; seen in June in Richmond, Va.

Ten minutes of physical exercise a day can prevent the brain from decline, study shows

Just ten minutes of physical exercise a day during middle age can prevent the brain from decline, study shows

  • Researchers studied 1,600 people over a period of 25 years looking at activity
  • They found that those active in middle age had healthier brains later in life
  • The team say 10 minutes of daily exercise can reduce the risk of brain issues

Getting ten minutes of physical exercise a day while in middle age can help to protect your brain from decline as you get older, a new study shows.

Regular physical activity – such as walking briskly, running or cycling – in middle age into later life is associated with less brain damage 25 years later, say scientists.

Colombia University Irving Medical Center researchers studied 1,600 people with an average age of 53 who had attended five physical examinations over 25 years.

Their findings suggest greater amounts of ‘moderate-to-vigorous intensity’ physical activity in middle age have a ‘protective’ effect on the brain as you get older.

The participants involved in the study rated their weekly activity levels once at the start and again at two additional times over the 25 year period.

Each person reported the amount of time they engaged in moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity, which researchers classified as none, low, middle or high.

The researchers then used brain scans to measure participants’ grey and white brain matter and lesions, or areas of injury or disease in the brain, at the end of the study.

Study author Priya Palta said the findings suggest physical activity – particularly during mid-life – is closely linked to brain health.

‘Getting at least an hour and 15 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity a week may be important throughout your lifetime for promoting brain health and preserving the actual structure of your brain,’ Palta said.

‘In particular, engaging in more than two-and-a-half hours of physical activity per week in middle age was associated with fewer signs of brain disease.’

After adjusting for lifestyle factors and demographics people with no moderate-to-vigorous physical activity in mid-life had a 47 per cent greater chance of developing small areas of brain damage after 25 years than those who did exercise.

Researchers used brain scans to measure the amount of damage to the brain’s white matter – the tissue composed of nerve fibres connecting different regions.regions – and found higher activity levels were linked to more intact white matter.

The team also looked at movement of water molecules in the brain tissue.

Participants who reported high physical activity in mid-life had movement that was more beneficial, compared to participants who reported no activity in mid-life.

The researchers then used brain scans to measure participants' grey and white brain matter and lesions, or areas of injury or disease in the brain, at the end of the study. Stock image

Dr Palta said the results show being active in mid-life has real brain benefits, particularly ‘consistently high levels of mid-life moderate-to-vigour physical activity’.

Other research has shown that brain lesions may be caused by inflammation or other damage to the small blood vessels in the brain.

Dr Palta added: ‘Our research suggests that physical activity may impact cognition in part through its effects on small vessels in the brain.

‘This study adds to the body of evidence showing that exercise with moderate-to-vigorous intensity is important for maintaining thinking skills throughout your lifetime.’

The study has been published in Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

Study Gauges Mental, Physical Toll of Divorce

By Amy Norton HealthDay Reporter

FRIDAY, Dec. 4, 2020 (HealthDay News) — Couples going through a divorce may see their mental well-being deteriorate — especially if they are having angry exchanges and other conflicts, a new study shows.

The findings are no surprise, experts said. But the study appears to be the first to capture how married people fare in the midst of a split, rather than after a period of separation.

And overall, both men and women reported poorer physical and mental health than the norm for the general population. That was particularly true if their divorce was messy — involving fights over kids, hostile communication or other conflicts.

That’s not to say that divorce, alone, took the toll on people’s well-being.

“Divorce is often understood as a process, where the judicial divorce is one part,” said lead researcher Gert Martin Hald, an associate professor of public health at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark.

So the mental-health fallout of divorce is also the result of the “prolonged experience of relationship distress” that led to the breakup, Hald said.

Allen Sabey, a clinical assistant professor with Northwestern University’s Family Institute in Chicago, agreed.

Both the marital distress and the divorce take their toll, said Sabey, who was not involved in the study.

“Even if you want the divorce,” he noted, “you’re still dealing with the loss of the relationship.”

For some people, Sabey said, the breakup of a marriage engenders guilt, shame or a “feeling that something’s wrong with you.” Add to that any financial strains, battles over co-parenting or other conflicts, and it’s easy to see how both physical and mental well-being can be drained.

“Divorce is a process that gets into our bodies and minds to cause distress,” Sabey said.

He saw nothing surprising in the new findings. But, he said, it is important to understand how couples are doing around the time of the split, as well as later on.

The study, published in the November issue of the journal Frontiers in Psychology, involved more than 1,800 Danish men and women who’d just gotten a legal divorce.

Kelly Clarkson is awarded primary physical custody of her kids in Brandon Blackstock divorce

Kelly Clarkson has been awarded primary physical custody of her two children kids, it was revealed in court documents that were shared on Monday.

The 38-year-old singer is in the middle of divorcing her music manager husband Brandon Blackstock whom she split from in June.

A Los Angeles judge stated that the kids should be with one parent when in Los Angeles as co-parenting has been a struggle due to ‘trust’ it was revealed in a late October court date.

She gets the kids: Kelly Clarkson has been awarded primary physical custody of her two children kids, it was revealed in court documents on Monday (pictured 2018)

Kelly filed for divorce from Brandon earlier in June after seven years of marriage. The children are daughter River Rose, aged six, and son Remington Alexander, aged four.

‘The Court finds that under the circumstances present in this case, the interest in providing stability and continuity for the minor children weighs in favor of Petitioner having primary custody,’ the court document read, according to People; the Petitioner is Kelly.

The two will share joint physical and legal custody, but Clarkson will have primary physical custody when in Los Angeles, according to the site.

The document added, ‘The level of conflict between the parents has increased. The parties have a difficult time co-parenting due to issues of trust between them.’

Blackstock will be visiting the children. That require a lot of travel as she will be living in Los Angeles as that is where Clarkson tapes her TV talk show.

And he will be staying in Montana where the family owns a ranch.

River and Remy spent Thanksgiving with their father and will also be with him from December 19 until 2 pm on Christmas.

And Kelly gets to see her little ones after 2 pm on Christmas until the New Year’s holiday.

Last week, Clarkson appeared to hint at a possible reason behind her split from Brandon.

Reflecting on all she was thankful for this past year on her eponymous talk show, Kelly said, ‘I’m grateful in 2020 for the lesson I learned about… myself.’

She added: ‘Even at 38, I feel like I’m always changing and progressing in a good sense, in a good way. And I always want to make sure I’m being the best version of myself.’

Kelly also revealed that her mother Jeanne had always been a big influence on her decisions.

She said: ‘My mom has been telling me since I was a kid: you are who you surround yourself with.

‘You want to make sure you’re surrounded by people that also want to be the best versions of themselves and also want a good common goal for everyone, not just themselves, right?

‘People, like, could be bad for you in a certain time. And I think that everybody just goes, ‘Oh, well that means they’re bad.’ Well it doesn’t necessarily mean that, it just means that you’re on different paths. And I think that that’s okay.

‘Everybody’s on a different learning curve.’

The singer previously said she was not going to be fully transparent about the split on account of the two children she shares with Brandon, daughter River, six, and son Remington, four.

The pop star told the Los Angeles Times in September: ‘I am a very open person, but I’m not going to be able to be truly open about this in certain aspects because there’s kids involved.’

Since the split, Kelly has been keeping busy with her career.

On top of hosting The Kelly Clarkson Show, she is also a coach on The Voice.

The importance of physical and mental health when you play sports | The State

In the world of sports there is a lot to consider, especially when it comes to the physical and mental health of the player. Since the body and mind must gradually adapt to the rigorous movements and training that are part of the preparation and development of the player. Especially if your desire is to play sports professionally.

For that reason, their bodies and minds have to be adequately prepared to tolerate and prevent future injuries, which could affect the optimal performance of the athlete. However, not all preparation must be physical, remember that the mind creates what the mind believes, that is, emotional intelligence and mental health directly affect the performance of any athlete at all levels.

There are several ways to prevent some of the different injuries that a person who plays sports can suffer, such as:

  • Condition the body. Before doing any physical activity that involves any kind of effort, it is necessary to perform stretching with a previous warm-up to prepare your muscles and joints.
  • Using the correct equipment, as well as taking care of the correct technique are essential to exploit the potential of your body and your mind to the maximum. Having the right equipment to practice each sport such as helmets, protectors, even things as simple as the appropriate jersey helps to avoid confusion or risk of injury.
  • Take care of the necessary rest to provide the optimal recovery of your body giving it time to heal the muscle fibers after heavy exercises, without forgetting that during the hours of sleep there are many neurological processes that help us to maintain the proper functioning of our brain.
  • A balanced diet provides essential nutrients for the proper functioning of our organs and our body in general.

When the athlete conditions his body, prepares his mind and visualizes victory, it makes him stronger to be able to perform successfully in any activity.

Preventing injuries is very important for those who want to be professional athletes in the future. Being an athlete requires staying mentally strong to face the pressure during a game as well as the adversities of the day to day. Even have a life balance. Developing a positive mindset and emotional intelligence in life helps us to be able to tolerate and be successful in whatever sport they play. The discipline and mindset of giving 100% helps a lot to be able to keep going no matter how many times you fail. And this is one of the greatest lessons that sport can give us in life.

Britney Spears cuts ties with dad after his ‘physical contact’ with her son

Britney Spears has reportedly not spoken with her dad for over a year, after his alleged “physical contact” with her teenage son in 2019.

The singer, 38, was entered into a legally mandated conservatorship in 2008 – also known as a legal guardianship – lead by her father Jamie, and has not been able to live her life freely since.

And after that has understandably put a strain on their relationship, it seems as though the pair are far from resolving their issues.

The deal breaker for Britney was when her ex-husband Kevin Federline was forced to file a police report that alleged Jamie laid hands on the couple’s son Sean Preston, then 13, during an altercation last year.

Britney has reportedly not spoken to her father for over a year

Kevin told police that a “very angry” Jamie broke down a door amid a fiery row with Sean – leaving the teen “scared and upset”.

Ever since the altercation, Britney has cut all ties with her dad.

A source told People at the time: “Since the drama that happened between Preston and Jamie, Britney has not had any contact with her dad.”

Their strained relationship has left Britney heartbroken.

Britney desperately wants her father to stop controlling her life

A source told People : “She feels like he has no respect for her wishes. It’s a sad situation. Jamie has always had a tendency to shut down Britney’s requests without any discussion.”

Mirror Online has contacted Britney’s reps for comment.

This week, Britney asked a judge in Los Angeles to remove her father from her conservatorship, which has allowed him to control her finances and personal life since her public breakdown in 2008, with her lawyers saying she is “afraid” of him.

But unfortunately for her, Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny declined to remove her father from the role.

However the judge added she would be willing to consider future petitions.

The global superstar has completed four world tours, recorded four albums, and performed 248 sold-out shows of her concert series – all while living by her father’s rules.

Jon Gosselin urges his children to tell their side of the story amid allegations of physical abuse

Jon Gosselin has implored his children to speak out as accusations of physical abuse fly between himself and his ex Kate Gosselin.

The reality TV star, 43, appeared on The Dr. Oz Show on Tuesday to discuss his long-running family feud, and the role his eight children have to play in any potential resolution.

‘I think the kids need to talk,’ the Jon & Kate Plus 8 alum told Mehmet Oz on his talk show.

Last month, multiple sources told DailyMail.com that documents submitted to a court in Pennsylvania during the bitter custody battle between Kate and ex-husband Jon allege that Collin Gosselin detailed the horrific abuse by his mother to a court appointed therapist.

But Kate has claimed Jon is the problem parent, accusing her ex of ‘kicking and punching’ Collin while also calling him a ‘violent and abusive person.’

In Tuesday’s interview, Gosselin said he felt the kids needed to have their say.

‘I’m giving them the outlet of, “If you want to talk to the public because you’re public [people], you have every opportunity to do these things,”‘ said the DJ.

Jon added that he felt ‘an intervention’ from his children would be required for him to ever mend bridges with his ex-wife.

‘I have no idea if they’ll reach out in that way. I’ve left that in their court and I’m just focused on the two that are living with me because there’s so much going on with therapies and work and COVID and everything else,’ Gosselin told Dr. Oz on his program.

Jon and Kate share twins Cara and Mady, 20, and sextuplets Aaden, Collin, Joel, Alexis, Hannah and Leah, 16.

And the younger children have recently found themselves at the center of a messy custody battle, in which both Jon and Kate have accused the other of abuse.

Last month it was alleged Collin, 16, detailed abuse by his mother to a court appointed therapist.

Citing a December, 2018 report submitted to the Court of Common Pleas of Berks County, Pennsylvania DailyMail.com sources claim a certified traumatologist and counselor concluded that Collin was suffering from trauma and chronic PTSD.

The expert claimed in the paperwork that after her third session with Collin, as a mandated reporter, she was duty bound to report the alleged abuse to Childline.

DailyMail.com has reached out to Collin’s father Jon who confirmed the existence of the report, but he said he’s unable to comment.
