LG imagines a bed with a hidden see-thru OLED TV set

LG Display is continuing its trend of reimagining the future of screens at CES 2021 with a new transparent TV. The panel is a 55-inch OLED, but its transparent design lets you see through it even when it’s turned on and displaying an image.

The screen achieves 40 percent transparency, LG Display says, which is an improvement over past transparent LCDs the company claims achieved only 10 percent transparency.

LG imagines the screen sitting at the foot of a bed, where it can rise up partially or in full to show information or videos while retaining a view of the other side of the screen. The panel as it’s designed now has built-in speakers in the form of LG Display’s Cinematic Sound OLED (CSO) technology, which uses vibrations of the screen to produce audio. It’s the same audio system found on LG’s other OLED prototype announced at CES this year, a bendable gaming monitor that can transform from flat to curved.

LG says the transparent OLED set can also be moved around the home if you’d like to position it somewhere else (if it were something you could actually buy, which you cannot right now).

LG Display has designed its first prototype of the 55-inch transparent OLED to sit at the foot of a bed.

The company sees this as both a smart home device and one that could one day be used in public settings, like in restaurants and on public transportation.

“Transparent OLED is a technology that maximizes the advantages of OLED and can be used in various places in our daily lives, from stores, shopping malls, and architectural interiors to autonomous vehicles, subway trains, and aircraft,” Jong-sun Park, LG Display’s senior vice president and head of commercial business, said in a statement. “It will grow into a next-generation display that can change the existing display paradigm.”

LG Display imagines its transparent OLED display outside the home, as both a subway window and display in a public transportation setting.

This isn’t the first transparent display to make a debut at CES; we’ve seen Samsung’s transparent OLED screens before, and Panasonic showed off a prototype transparent display back in 2016 (though it was only HD). And it’s not even LG’s first transparent OLED — the company announced last month it’s started developing see-through OLED sliding doors for office buildings and commercial spaces. LG also created a 77-inch curved transparent OLED back in 2017 that it imagined could be used for signage or advertising.

But this is LG Display’s first screen of this type it’s made strictly as a TV that would actually go in someone’s home, and not just something you’d see in a futuristic shopping center or some other commercial venue.

This is just one of many in a long line of LG Display experimental prototypes, some of which do indeed become real products you can buy. The company has made waves at past CES showcases with various iterations of its rollable OLED technology, while a commercial version of the TV using the tech finally went on sale in South Korea in October of last year for an eye-popping $87,000.

Unfortunately, there’s no indication right now that LG’s new transparent OLED TV will become a real product at some point in the future or how much it might cost if it does.

Bruno Fernandes’ hidden role in Anthony Martial’s Man Utd opener vs Aston Villa

Anthony Martial scored Manchester United’s first goal of 2021 with a well-worked move against Aston Villa.

In a break from the norm in recent weeks, playmaker Bruno Fernandes was not involved in the goal as a Marcus Rashford flick set free Aaron Wan-Bissaka down the right flank.

From there, the full-back – often criticised for his lack of attacking output – provided a fine cross for Martial to nod into the back of the net before the half-time break.

Whilst man of the moment Fernandes did not add another goal involvement to pick up where he left off in 2020, comments from Wan-Bissaka in the matchday programme suggest he had a hidden role in the goal.

The right-back noted how coaches have been working hard to involve him in attacking link-up such as the move which saw him setup Martial.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka provided the assist for Anthony Martial’s opener in a rare Man Utd goal not directly involving Bruno Fernandes

And he also revealed Fernandes has taken it upon himself to give him tailored advice before games regarding which runs to make.

Whilst the Portuguese maestro was not involved in the move which carved up Aston Villa, his tips certainly seemed to pay off.

“I do work on it (attacking). The staff are helping me do that all the time in training,” Wan-Bissaka told United’s matchday programme.

Who was Man of the Match in Manchester United vs Aston Villa? Have your say here.

Man Utd and Fernandes have been working hard to unlock Wan-Bissaka’s attacking capabilities

“They like me to go up and link with the attack, when I can.

“He helps everyone – on and off the pitch,” Wan-Bissaka said about Fernandes.

“He tells me before the game what he thinks I should do and which positions he thinks I should get into when he gets the ball, and where I should be.

He has done it with the other players, and I can see that, along with the impact that he has made.”

Wan-Bissaka was criticised for switching off and allowing Jack Grealish space to set up Bertrand Traore’s leveller in the second half.

But Fernandes soon got in on the act and found the net from the penalty spot after Paul Pogba was fouled to score what proved to be the winner.

David Bowie’s son finds pop legend’s scarf from The Snowman hidden in storage

David Bowie’s son, Duncan Jones, was surprise to discover the scarf his father wore in The Snowman while searching through storage boxes.

Music icon David – who sadly passed away aged 69 in 2016 – featured in the iconic 1982 animation film The Snowman, appearing as a narrator at the beginning of the cartoon during a live action segment.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, David’s 49-year-old director son Duncan – known as Zowie Bowie when he was a child – revealed he had the joyous surprise of finding the scarf his father wore in the Snowman scene.

Sharing a selfie of himself with the scarf wrapped around him – and clutching a couple of sock puppets – Duncan described finding the vintage prop.

David Bowie featured as a narrator in the 1982 film The Snowman

He wrote: “Went looking for sock monkeys in the storage boxes and FOUND THE SCARF!!! YAY!”

The update provoked an outpouring of nostalgia and emotion from fans, with many sharing their adoration for both The Snowman and David.

Among those responding was a man named Brian Harding who claimed to have worked on The Snowman and shared an anecdote about the scarf.

Duncan Jones looked absolutely thrilled to have found his father’s scarf

He tweeted: “Hi Duncan! I am Brian Harding, who produced the filming of your father’s introduction to The Snowman.

“You may not remember the history. The Scarf was knitted by the lady in the accounts department of TVC, the production company who made the animation.

“She came onto the set and presented it to David.

“When filming was over, David asked very politely if he could keep the scarf to give to his son, Zowie.”

He continued: “This was the only fee he charged for the filming and I believe he offered his services for personal reasons.

The original scarf was found by David’s son Duncan in a storage box

“He was charming throughout and totally professional. I am glad that the scarf found its way to the destination he intended: from the dude to another dude.”

The Snowman was based on the book of the same name by Raymond Briggs and tells the story of a boy named James who goes on a magical journey to the arctic circle with a snowman that comes to life.

In the animation, the pair meet Father Christmas who gifts James a scarf – which is as the one worn by David in the live-action introduction.

Is the Holy Grail in HOUNSLOW? Amateur archaeologist convinced relic hidden under river in London

Is the Holy Grail in HOUNSLOW? Amateur archaeologist is convinced relic was hidden by Knights Templar in secret crypt under river in London as he prepares to survey spot

  • Amateur archaeologist claims to have located the site of the Holy Grail chalice
  • Barrie-Jon Bower, 40, believes it is buried in secret crypt under river in Hounslow
  • Location of goblet used by Jesus at last supper has been a mystery for centuries

An amateur archaeologist is convinced he has located the site of the Holy Grail, buried in a secret crypt under a river in Hounslow, west London.

Barrie-Jon Bower, 40, from Cinderford, Gloucestershire, has spent years studying the links with the mysterious goblet and an order of monks founded in medieval times.

He believes the Knights Templar, a Catholic military order who were closely tied to the Crusades, brought the Holy Grail back to England on one of their trips to the Holy Land.

The sacred relic used by Jesus at the last supper, along with other treasures from the Crusades, is hidden in a secret crypt near a weir at the Duke of Northumberland’s river, he claims.

Mr Bower, who is currently unemployed, says he is ‘certain’ he has found the correct spot and expects this will be one of the greatest discoveries in history.

Mr Bower told The Sun: ‘When I find it, it’s going to be one of the greatest finds in history, the biggest discovery of mankind.

‘Now I’ve been in the water it’s made me more certain. It feels hollow. It feels right. There’s something underneath. Why not Hounslow?

‘Finally I am certain this is the right spot. I am certain there will be a vault beneath the surface, with the Grail inside and other treasures from the Crusades.

Mr Bower says is 'certain' he has found the correct spot where the Holy Grail is buried and expects this will be 'one of the greatest finds in history'.  Pictured: A goblet in Leon, northern Spain claiming to be the Holy Grail, one of the 200 artifacts in Europe with the same claim

He has now secured the help of the Environment Agency, to divert the river in order to survey the river bed, which he believes is hollow.

Using hired specialist geophysical equipment, costing him £1,000, he will study the ground once the river has been drained as early next year.

‘I can’t wait to get started. There are some other reasons as to why I think the Holy Grail is here which I don’t want to reveal,’ he said.

‘I don’t want rival hunters to get that information. It needs to stay secret. All will be revealed.’

The Holy Grail is traditionally thought to be the cup that Christ drank from at the Last Supper and that Joseph of Arimathea used to collect Jesus's blood at his crucifixion

The Environment Agency were scheduled to visit the site yesterday but the visit was postponed due to bad weather.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: ‘We are willing to review Mr Bower’s request and see if we are able to support him at another time.

‘We have a statutory role to ensure that any works carried out on a Main River are done in a way that does not cause environmental damage or pose a flood risk.’

The Holy Grail is traditionally thought to be the cup that Christ drank from at the Last Supper and that Joseph of Arimathea used to collect Jesus’s blood at his crucifixion.

The goblet has been shrouded in mystery for centuries with many conspiracy theories arising as to its location.

There are currently more than 200 locations in Europe claiming to posses the genuine artifact of Holy Grail.

In 1818, an Austrian pseudohistorical writer, Joseph von Hammer-Purgstall, first linked the Holy Grail to contemporary myths surrounding the Knights Templar.

Where is the Holy Grail?

The Holy Grail is traditionally thought to be the cup that Jesus Christ drank from at the Last Supper.

Joseph of Arimathea, the man who buried the body of Jesus, is thought to have used the cup to collect Jesus’s blood at his crucifixion.

The location of the goblet has been shrouded in mystery for centuries leading to many claimants and conspiracy theories.

There are currently more than 200 locations in Europe claiming to posses the genuine artifact of Holy Grail.

One of the most prominent of these is the Santo Cáliz, in the Cathedral of Santa María de Valencia in Spain.

Many believe the Santo Cáliz was taken from Jerusalem to Rome by Saint Peter before 100 AD.

It was later sent to Spain for safekeeping when the Emperor Valerian began to persecute the Christians from 257 AD.

It has also been linked to Glastonbury in Somerset, England, which has been associated with King Arthur.

In the 13th century, a legend arose that Joseph of Arimathea founded Glastonbury Abbey and it is believed he brought with him a collection of holy relics, including the Holy Grail.

Hidden camera: he films his ex without his knowledge in the bathroom

An individual from Beauce pleaded guilty to a voyeurism charge for having installed a camera in the bathroom of the family home, in order to film his ex-spouse.

Simon Ratté, 42, from Beauceville, wanted to obtain videos of his naked ex, to use them as “bargaining chips” in a context of separation, we learned at the courthouse of Saint-Joseph-de -Beauce, Friday.

Between March 20 and April 2, 2020, Ratté records videos in the bathroom, his ex-spouse and he living in the house alternately to minimize the impact on children.

Surprised, she begins to search the house from top to bottom and finds a camera in the toilet. She recovers the SD card and watches it all. In the images, we see her naked taking a shower or a bath.

Taylor Swift fans think a hidden word in album artwork means she has a THIRD record on the way

Taylor Swift fans think a hidden word in album artwork means she has a THIRD record on the way… just hours after release of Evermore

Taylor Swift fans think she already has another album on the way, just hours after the release of evermore – her second LP of 2020.

Right after the cardigan singer, 30, debuted evermore, Swifties – always on the look out for an Easter egg – noticed the title had been hidden into the corner of photos from folklore promo art.

And fans now think a third album is on the way after finding the word ‘woodvale’ looming at the top of another photo.

Prolific: If Taylor Swift fans are right she could have yet another album on the way

Some super-fans did a deep dive to find out that Woodvale is a specific estate located near the Lake District in the United Kingdom, a location she also paid tribute to with The Lakes, a track off folklore.

While the possibility of another album is still up in the air, Swift has offered some insider into one of the most interesting songs on her new album.

In the song No Body No Crime, Taylor avenges the murder of a woman named Este who confronts her cheating husband.

The track was partially inspired by Este Haim of the band Haim, so of course Taylor had to reach out.

‘Working with the Haim sisters on No Body, No Crime was pretty hilarious because it came about after I wrote a pretty dark murder mystery song and had named the character Este, because she’s the friend I have who would be stoked to be in a song like that,’ she told Entertainment Weekly.

‘I had finished the song and was nailing down some lyric details and texted her, “You’re not going to understand this text for a few days but…which chain restaurant do you like best?” and I named a few,’ she continued.

Interesting: While it's unclear if another album will happen, Taylor recently revealed some of the background to her track No Body, No Crime with the Haim sisters. They're all seen with actress Abigail Anderson (far left) above

‘She chose Olive Garden and a few days later I sent her the song and asked if they would sing on it. It was an immediate “YES.”

‘We can’t figure out why we hadn’t collaborated sooner. We’ve toured together, played live together, choreographed dances like we’re at summer camp, but it took a song about avenging your friend’s murder to give us the idea to take this step. Long story short, I’m the 4th Haim sister now, confirmed,’ she concluded.
