Accused In Alleged Acid Attack On Three Underage UP Sisters In Gonda Arrested

The accused, in the incident in which three minor girls suffered burn injuries after being allegedly attacked with acid on Monday night while they were asleep in their house in UP’s Gonda district, has been arrested, police said on Tuesday.

The accused was arrested following an encounter with police personnel in the state’s Huzurpur area late Tuesday evening. He sustained injuries during the encounter and has been hospitalised.

Speaking to reporters, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mahendra Kumar said, “A case was registered at the Paraspur police station after an acid-like chemical was thrown on three minor girls. In the police investigation, it was found that a person Ashish aka Chotu is an accused.”

“Police launched a search for the accused and late evening, a police team saw him arriving on a motorcycle. His bike slipped when he saw the police jeep and he opened fire at police, and police personnel retaliated in self-defence during which the accused got injured. He has been arrested and sent to a hospital for treatment,” the ASP said.

The bike of the accused has been seized and a pistol and cartridges have been recovered from his possession, the police official said adding that a further investigation is underway.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed the Gonda superintendent of police to take strict action against the culprit and provide the girls with immediate financial aid and ensure proper treatment, an official statement said.

“Three minor sisters were attacked with a chemical while sleeping on the first floor of their house. Doctors are investigating what chemical was used. The girls are stable. One has 30 per cent burn injuries, while the other two have 20 per cent and 7 per cent burn injuries,” Shailesh Kumar Pandey, Superintendent of Police, Gonda told reporters.

The siblings aged 17, 12 and seven years have been admitted to the district hospital where they are undergoing treatment.

UP Priest Shot At Allegedly Over Land Dispute, Critical

Case has been registered against four persons, Gonda Superintendent of Police Shailesh Pandey said.


A priest in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda, around 117 km from state capital Lucknow, is reported to be in critical condition after he was shot by unknown men last night allegedly over land dispute.

Samrat Das, who serves at the Ram Janki temple in the district, was shot at the temple premises late in the night, officials said. The priest, who is reported to be critical, has been referred to a hospital in Lucknow.

The Ram Janki temple, which is about 25 kilometer from Gonda City, has about 100 bighas of land along the banks of river Manorama, which is very expensive.

According to reports, some local land mafia have been trying to grab the prime land, following which several cases were filed in the local court.

“A priest of a temple at a village in Itia Thok, Gonda was shot at last night. He was admitted to a hospital. Case has been registered against four persons. He had land dispute with the accused. We are investigating the matter,” Shailesh Kumar Pandey, Gonda Superintendent of Police, was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

This is the second reported case of attack on a priest over temple land.

On Thursday, a priest in Rajasthan died due to burn injuries after he was attacked by a group of men over a land dispute. The Rajasthan priest was cremated only on Saturday after his family relented and allowed the last rites to be performed.

The police have also detained two people in connection with the crime and another three have been named in the first information report.
