Sir Sean, seen in the eyes of many as the definitive James Bond, died “peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family” at home in the Bahamas on Saturday.

Over a glittering, five-decade career, the Scottish actor won an Oscar, two Baftas and three Golden Globes, and continued to find huge success after leaving Bond.

Acting legends including Robert De Niro, Kevin Costner, Sir Michael Caine and those who followed Sir Sean as 007, including Daniel Craig and George Lazenby joined the world of film and beyond in remembering the late actor.

The Irish actor said: “Sir Sean Connery, you were my greatest James Bond as a boy, and as a man who became James Bond himself. You cast a long shadow of cinematic splendour that will live on forever.

“You led the way for us all who followed in your iconic foot steps. Each man in his turn looked to you with reverence and admiration as we forged ahead with our own interpretations of the role.

“You were mighty in every way, as an actor and as a man, and will remain so till the end of time. Your were loved by the world, and will be missed. God bless, rest now, be at peace.”

Sir Sean’s wife, Micheline, told the Mail On Sunday the actor suffered from dementia.

She said: “At least he died in his sleep and it was just so peaceful. I was with him all the time and he just slipped away. It was what he wanted.

“He had dementia and it took its toll on him. He got his final wish to slip away without any fuss.”

Micheline, a 91-year-old Moroccan-French painter who married Sir Sean in 1975, added: “He was gorgeous and we had a wonderful life together. He was a model of a man. It is going to be very hard without him, I know that. But it could not last for ever and he went peacefully.”

De Niro, Costner and Sir Sean starred in 1987’s The Untouchables together, with the Scottish star earning a best supporting actor Oscar for his role as veteran policeman Jimmy Malone.

In a statement to the PA news agency, De Niro said: “I’m very sorry to hear about Sean’s passing. He seemed much younger than 90; I expected – and hoped – he’d be with us much longer. See you up there, Sean.”

Costner tweeted: “I, like the rest of the world, was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Sean Connery this morning

Sean was a crafted actor who was enormously proud of his body of work, particularly his work on stage.

“And although he was a very no-nonsense person, he was incredibly inclusive with me professionally and personally. He was the biggest star that I ever worked with and I will be forever grateful to be linked with him on film. Sean Connery was a man’s man who had an amazing career.”

Current Bond star Daniel Craig hailed Sir Sean as “one of the true greats of cinema”.

“The wit and charm he portrayed on screen could be measured in mega watts; he helped create the modern blockbuster. He will continue to influence actors and film-makers alike for years to come.

“My thoughts are with his family and loved ones. Wherever he is, I hope there is a golf course.”

Pierce Brosnan puts Malibu home on the market for $100 million after the couple moved to Hawaii

James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan has put his Malibu beachfront mansion, inspired by Tomorrow Never Dies, on the market for $100 million.

The sale will see the 007 star make a tidy profit after Brosnan created the estate by combining two separate plots of land that he purchased for just $5.1 million and $2.25 million in 2000.

The oceanfront retreat spans more than an acre with two homes that combined to make nine bedrooms and 14 bathrooms.

The house was built in 2010 and has so many solar panels that the new owner will be able to heat the house, outdoor pool and guest cabana and still sell electricity back to the local grid.

The home is exceptionally eco-friendly with all water being recycled on site in a purpose-built plant along with a waste disposal system, custom-built energy-saving lighting and a solar-powered revolving compost heap.

An extraordinary amount of care and craftsmanship went in to designing and building the mansion and matching pool house

The Asian-look of the home apparently came after Brosnan was inspired while filming Tomorrow Never Dies in Thailand

Irish-born Brosnan, 67, along with his wife Keely Shaye Smith, 56, have since moved to Hawaii.

When their dream home was first built, the pair were determined that it would set a new standard in being eco-friendly.

In the listing featured on realtor Christopher Cortazzo’s website, he describes the ‘once in a lifetime’ property in detail.

‘This retreat is surrounded by wrap-around lanais and courtyards that invite yoga at dawn, relaxing afternoons, sunset cocktails and effortless entertaining beneath the stars,’ the description reads. ‘On a rare parcel of more than one acre with approximately 117 feet of beachfront, Orchid House is created for resort-style living.’

The master suite alone spans 4,000 square feet, and comes with two fireplaces, an art studio and a deck that looks out to the ocean.

The lower level of the home includes a screening room with seats for 20, two bars and climate-controlled wine storage with space for about 200 bottles. Elsewhere, there’s a music room, a gym and a spa with two soaking tubs.

All the windows are non-glare, insulated glass and there is a centrally controlled climate and lighting system that will automatically turn off the lights if a room is left vacant for more than five minutes.

The climate control also automatically adjusts various rooms to maximize energy savings.

Brosnan was actively involved in every single aspect of building the home, right down to choosing the natural recycled wood for the kitchen benches and the low-flow toilets.’

The star shared images of the paintings he has been working on

The quirky artwork was a gift for his wife

Brosnan has three biological sons, including Sean Brosnan, 36, from his marriage to Cassandra.

Charlotte was the mother of two of Pierce’s grandchildren: Isabella, 21, and Lucas, 14.

Meanwhile, Sean Brosnan has a four-year-old daughter named Marley May.
