Faisal Khan on ‘breaking out’ of brother Aamir Khan’ shadow: ‘Why doesn’t one write it as Faisal Khan’s brother Aamir?’

Former actor Faisal Khan is all set to make his directorial debut but says that he has not taken any help from his brother, actor Aamir Khan. Faisal and Aamir do not share an amicable relationship.

The brothers have worked together on Mela and Faisal was also the assistant director on Aamir’s Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar. However, their relationship has soured over the years. Faisal is now going to direct his first film, called Faactory.

Talking about the project and Aamir’s involvement in it, Faisal told The Times of India in an interview, “No, I didn’t get any help from Aamir, he has not even heard the script of the film that I am making. And I didn’t need any help as such because I’ve been through the process.” He added, “With Aamir also, when I joined his production house, I was reading scripts. All the experience that I have gained from my initial assistant days till now, I’ve put it all into this film. So I don’t need to rely on Aamir for anything because ultimately it has to be a vision that a director has. And I didn’t want to take any inputs from anyone; I wanted to helm the project on my own. Whether it is a hit, it is my baby, whether it is a flop, it is my baby. I didn’t let anyone take the decisions, ultimately, as a director, you’re supposed to take your own decisions.”

Faisal said that he wants to break out of his star brother’s shadow. “Also, how does one form one’s own identity? I have had my own struggles. How does one break out of that. How does Faisal Khan ever break out of Aamir Khan’s shadow? Why doesn’t one write it as Faisal Khan’s brother Aamir? The whole system needs a big change,” he said.

The brothers’ relationship soured after Faisal was allegedly diagnosed with schizophrenia and Aamir and his mother put him on medication against his will. Claiming that he was never ill, Faisal had told Hindustan Times in a 2008 interview, “Frankly, I was never ill.. what has been said so far was speculative and spread by my elder brother Aamir Khan and other family members. In fact, I was kidnapped.. I was under house arrest, unwanted drugs were given to me. On the judgment day, judge saab announced that I’m not suffering from any illness.. and that I’m normal and capable of handling life on my own. I should be treated as a normal person.” In February 2008, a Bandra court said that Faisal need not be in anyone’s custody and could live anywhere he wanted to.

Aamir Khan’s perfect synopsis for DDLJ as it completes 25 years: ‘A hero who discovers his conscience, heroine who finds her voice’

Aamir Khan is also a Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge fan and is celebrating its 25th anniversary with the rest of the world. On Tuesday, he took to Twitter to share the most perfect synopsis for the movie.

“A hero who discovers his conscience, a heroine who finds her voice, a villain who has a change of heart, DDLJ appealed to the kinder, nicer, higher self within all of us. 25 years of a film that continues to charm the world. Thank you Adi, Kajol, Shahrukh, and the entire team of DDLJ,” Aamir wrote in his tweet. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge starred Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the lead. It released in 1995 and was still running in Mumbai’s Maratha Mandir until the lockdown.

Earlier in the day, Shah Rukh and Kajol celebrated the silver jubilee anniversary of the cult classic by changing their profile picture to Raj and Simran, the characters that they essayed in the movie. Written and directed by debutant Aditya Chopra, DDLJ shattered all box office records and is one of the biggest all-time blockbusters in the history of Hindi cinema.

DDLJ is also the winner of a record-breaking (at the time) 10 Filmfare Awards and the film literally changed the face of Bollywood globally. “I think ‘DDLJ’ is timeless because everybody identifies somewhere down the line with Simran and with Raj. I think they just like these characters a lot! They have liked them for years and years now and it’s one of those things that you always like and probably will always like,” Kajol said in a statement shared by production banner Yash Raj Films (YRF).

Aamir Khan’s daughter Ira warns trolls leaving hateful comments on her mental health posts: ‘I will restrict your access’

Aamir Khan’s daughter, Ira Khan, recently opened up about her struggle with clinical depression with the intention of starting a conversation on mental health. While many appreciated her for speaking up, there were some who wrote nasty comments. Taking to Instagram stories, she revealed how she will deal with hateful comments henceforth.

“For my posts on mental health: If you’re hateful or irrelevant once, I will delete your comment. If you do it again, I will restrict your access to my posts,” she wrote. She also shared the results of an Instagram poll she had conducted earlier in the week. “Should I delete hate and irrelevant comments on my post about mental health? (They don’t bother me),” she had asked her followers. 56% voted for yes.

On World Mental Health Day, Ira shared a video, in which she revealed that she has been battling depression for a few years now. “Hi, I’m depressed. I have been for more than four years now. I’ve been to a doctor and I’m clinically depressed. I’m doing much better now. For over a year now, I wanted to do something for mental health, but I wasn’t sure what to do. So, I have decided to take you on a journey, my journey, and see what happens. Hopefully, we will get to know ourselves slightly better, understand mental illness better,” she said.

In another video, Ira said that talking about her own struggle and reading people’s comments gives her ‘perspective’. “I theoretically and rationally know what I am supposed to be doing. I am working on it,” she said, thanking those who offered her advice after watching her previous video.

Kangana Ranaut shared Ira’s video on Twitter and insinuated that her depression could be caused by her parents’ divorce. “At 16 I was facing physical assault, was single handedly taking care of my sister who was burnt with acid and also facing media wrath, there can be many reasons for depression but it’s generally difficult for broken families children, traditional family system is very important,” the actor wrote. Ira is Aamir’s daughter with his ex-wife Reena Dutta.
