Adventure kills: 20-year-old woman trekker falls to death from cliff in Pune during cleanliness drive

Pune: On Wednesday, a 20-year-old woman trekker hailing from Mumbai’s Saat Rasta area died after she fell off a cliff while advancing on a trekking expedition at Pune’s Hadsar Fort. The incident happened at around 10 am when in order to commemorate the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj a trekking group decided to conduct a cleanliness drive at the fort after reaching its apex point.

The victim, identified as Siddhi Kamte, was a student of commerce at a college in Mumbai and was a Pune-native. She was very enthusiastic about trekking.

Kamte lost balance

According to Kamte’s family, she left home on Tuesday and tagged along with a group of nearly 35 trekkers for an expedition. The victim arrived at the Hadsar Fort, located nearly 13 km away from Shivneri fort, with her group for conducting a cleanliness drive. According to a rescue team member, during the expedition, Kamte lost her balance and fell off from a height of about 350 feet, reported the Times of India.

The police personnel along with the help of the local residents rescued Siddhi and rushed her to a hospital located in the vicinity. The medics at the hospital pronounced her ‘brought dead’.

Kamte aspired to be charted accountant

Siddhi is survived by her widow mother and a younger sister. A few years back she took to trekking. According to her family, she was shy-natured and the thought of going for treks would lighten her up. At a very young age, her father passed away. She loved her family and aspired to be a charted accountant for the betterment of their lives. After receiving the sad news, her uncle Sudhir, immediately, rushed to the hospital and expressed grief over the demise of the young life.

Authorities mull over conducting drone survey

The trekkers, meanwhile, are now more alert and have called in for better and effective measures of safety and security during expeditions. The district administration of Thane is mulling over the proposal to conduct a drone survey for tracking all the dangerous courses for trekkers. According to the officials, the survey will allow them to map the treacherous spots and propose safer alternatives.
