Top lawyer and Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi has indirectly thanked people for gossiping about him at a time when Twitter is awash with talk of a senior Congress leader who’s also a lawyer joining the BJP
“For those who gossip about me: Thanks for making me the center of your world.” “Gossip is the devil’s radio. So don’t be his DJ.” Those are messages written on posters tweeted by Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi. What’s he referring to? Well, we can’t be sure, but the timing makes it probable that he’s referring to recent speculation on social media that a “top Congress lawyer” is set to switch sides to the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Singhvi, for those who don’t know, is a senior advocate of the Supreme Court who’s represented the Congress party in court on a number of occasions. He’s also a Member of Parliament, representing West Bengal in the Rajya Sabha.

The ‘Congress lawyer’ was reported to be in touch with Amit Shah who’s seen to wield immense influence over the BJP’s political strategy even though he’s no longer the party’s president.

Some even linked the move to Madhya Pradesh politician Jyotiraditya Scindia’s switch from the Congress to the BJP. The speculation was that it was the ‘Congress lawyer’ who’d provided legal cover for Scindia to be able to defect with enough MLAs to bring down the Kamal Nath-led Congress government in Madhya Pradesh.
Scindia’s defection to the BJP did lead to the fall of the Kamal Nath government, which the BJP’s Shivraj Singh Chouhan returning as chief minister, and ever since then there are been speculation of other Congress leaders following suit.
