VVS Laxman said that his longtime India team mate Rahul Dravid was “absolutely the right man for the job” after the latter was announced as the head coach of the senior men’s team.

VVS Laxman congratulated his long-time former India team mate Rahul Dravid after the latter was announced as the senior men’s team’s head coach on Wednesday. Laxman said that Dravid was “absolutely the right man for the job” and that the Indian team will go “onward and upward” with him at the helm.

Dravid and Laxman formed the fourth most prolific partnership for India in Test history. Notably, they put up a 376-run stand against Australia in the second innings of the 2001 Eden Gardens Test that paved the way for India to become just the third team in the history of the game to win a match despite being forced to follow-on.
Earlier, Dravid said that he was looking forward to join the team as its new head coach. “Under Ravi Shastri, the team has done very well, and I hope to work with the team to take this forward. Having worked closely with most of the boys either at NCA, Under-19 and India ‘A’ setup, I know they have the passion and desire to improve every day,” said Dravid in his statement.
“There are some marquee multi-team events in the next two years, and I look forward to working with the players and the support staff to achieve our potential,” Dravid said.
