Qubool Hai 2.0 Review: Karan Singh Grover and Surbhi Jyoti reunite in alternate universe

Qubool Hai 2.0 began streaming on Zee5 today, March 12. The series stars Karan Singh Grover and Surbhi Jyoti in lead roles.

Evading constant attacks from goons, he saves the girl, who he chanced upon on the streets of Belgrade, Serbia. Accompanies her to Pakistan, her birthplace, so that she can meet her long-lost father. The man suffers from OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder) and speaks less while the girl is messy and can’t stop talking. Sparks fly and they confess their love for each other. But all is not as it seems to be. There’s more to the man who the girl trusts blindly since he saved her life on multiple occasions. That’s Qubool Hai 2.0.

Asad and Zoya meet again in similar circumstances but in an alternate universe. The series begins with Karan Singh Grover as Asad flexing his muscles while taking a shower. Meanwhile, Surbhi Jyoti as Zoya is getting ready for her nikah. Asad is a world shooting champion and one of India’s well-known celebrities who has been hired by the government of India for his shooting skills, while Zoya is a writer and the daughter of Pakistan’s army chief who is also the defence minister of the country. The two are a classic case of opposite attracts. Qubool Hai fans would love to see their favourite on-screen jodi together again.

Many scenes in the series will give you a feeling of deja vu if you’ve watched the original series, which aired on Zee TV from 2012 to 2016. The way Asad and Zoya bicker during their first meeting, address each other as Mr Khan and Miss Farooqui to Zoya’s ‘Allah miyaan what’s wrong with you’, everything reminds you of the OG Qubool Hai. All in all, Qubool Hai 2.0 is a treat for Qubool Hai fans who have been longing to see Karan Singh Grover and Surbhi Jyoti reunite on screen.

Shalini Sagar and Nehalaxmi Iyer as Dilshad and Tamatar aka Najma are adorable in the series. Arif Zakaria and Mandira Bedi make an impact with their presence, while Lillete Dubey is an annoying aunt is notable. The series also stars Priyal Gor, Sourabh Raaj Jain and Gurpreet Bedi, among others.

With Qubool Hai 2.0, Karan Singh Grover’s swag is back and will surely make the girls drool with his charming persona. Surbhi Jyoti, on the other hand, lights up the screen with her presence. She is perfect to a T as Zoya. The series proceeds smoothly with Asad and Zoya’s banter and chanced meetings, but it gets interesting midway, as the makers introduce an interesting twist. Love, lies and betrayal are a favourite concoction for any series or film. Shot in beautiful locales of Serbia, the series has elements like romance, patriotism and action sequences to make it a hit. However, a tighter script was missing. Few events that take place in the series are unfathomable and make you wonder if it is that easy to breach the security of the defence minister of a country.

Directed and produced by Mrinal Jha, Qubool Hai 2.0 keeps the essence of the original show intact. Fans would love to see AsYa (Asad+Zoya) again. Spoiler alert for the fans, you get to watch your favourite pair kiss, not once but twice, on the show. Guess that’s the perk of streaming on an OTT platform. Composed and sung by Kabyashree Bora aka Kaysee, the title track will get you hooked. So much that you would not like to skip it at the beginning of every episode. With 10 episodes of 20-25 minutes each, Qubool Hai 2.0 is totally binge-worthy, more so if you are an AsYa, KSG or a Surbhi Jyoti fan. The series ends on a cliffhanger. And – KSG has already confirmed it – expect a lot of twists and turns in Qubool Hai 2.0 Season 2
