Talks between Taliban and Afghan government

The Afghan government and the Taliban are negotiating in Doha to reach an agreement. Terrorist incidents have increased in Afghanistan in the last few months due to long negotiations, with no result. More than three weeks later, on January 6, the two sides held talks, but there was no result. According to media reports, there has been no official dialogue between the two sides since then.

Taliban adamant on demanding President’s resignation

Abdullah Abdullah, chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation, said last week that he had instructed the government’s negotiating team to focus on the ceasefire and reduction of violence to make the talks a success. However, the Taliban have demanded the resignation of President Ashraf Ghani for the ceasefire.

According to media reports, Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, a member of the team negotiating on behalf of the Taliban, has said that his organization is ready for peace if Ashraf Ghani resigns. At the same time, President Ghani rejected the demand, saying that he was not a hindrance for peace.
