Second day of investigation of Delhi blast: 182 people on radar near the Israel Embassy during blast, focus on Iran connection also

New Delhi : No concrete evidence has been found so far in the investigation into the blast near the Israeli embassy in Delhi on Friday. Now the investigating agencies are extracting the information of 182 people who were around during the 2 hours during the blast. The police’s focus is also on the Iranian connection in the blast. Police officials say that there are enough indications that Tehran may be behind the blast.

There was a blast outside Embassy at 5.10 pm on 29 January. This damaged three vehicles parked there. Between 3.10 and 5.10 in the afternoon, 61 people passed through Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road (from Embassy to South Delhi). 121 people came from South Delhi towards Embassy. Police suspect that one of these 182 people has planted an IED device under a tree on Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road outside Embassy.

According to the police, their photographs have been extracted from the footage of CCTV cameras installed nearby. They also contain footage of the bungalows near the embassy. According to an official, we have identified many of these people. Everyone will be questioned. Police had identified the two suspects from CCTV located near the spot. These people were seen getting off a cab. Police interrogated the cab driver and got a sketch of the suspects.

Delhi Police questioned Iranians:

NSG’s team is investigating the methods of the blast. Delhi Police’s Special Cell has questioned some Iranians living in the capital. These include some Iranian citizens whose visas have expired. On the other hand, since the blast, Israel has increased the security of its embassies worldwide.

What evidence has been found so far?

  • The investigation team has retrieved records of active mobile phones in the vicinity during the blast on Friday evening near the Israeli Embassy. 45 thousand such mobile phones were active.
  • On Friday and Saturday, some people were also raided in several areas and detained. However, the information received from them is not provided.
  • The Cyber ​​Cell of Delhi Police is investigating a telegram account regarding the blast near the Israeli embassy. The screenshot of taking responsibility for the blast from this account went viral. In this, an organization named Jaish-ul-Hind claimed responsibility for the blast. However, this has not been confirmed.
  • A forensic team investigation has revealed that ammonium nitrate was used for the blast.
  • On the spot, the Crime Branch team got a half-burnt scarf and an envelope in the name of the Israeli ambassador.
  • According to sources, a letter has also been recovered from inside this envelope. It reads ‘This is a trailer’. The forensic team is now investigating fingerprints.
  • Investigating agencies have recovered broken pieces of cold drink can and ball bearings from the scene. These pieces have been sent to the forensic lab for examination.
  • Initial investigations have revealed that explosives and ball bearings were inserted into the cold drink can.
