A presumably intoxicated suspect allegedly mistreated an employee of a Montreal branch of the SQDC and a police officer, injuring them both, before being in turn seriously injured by the police who sought to subdue him early Monday evening.
According to what the Bureau of Independent Investigations said, the suspect first attacked a person in a business around 5:40 p.m., causing him to lose consciousness during the assault.
The event took place at the Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC) branch on Queen Mary Road, in the Côtes-des-Neiges – Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough, the QMI Agency was able to confirm. .
The first agents to go there tried to control the madman – who would have rushed towards them – with cayenne pepper, without success. In the ensuing altercation, a police officer was injured and lost consciousness.
Other officers then arrived as reinforcements and sought to subdue the suspect with their telescopic batons. The latter was ultimately injured in the head during the melee.
He had to be taken to hospital and was unconscious at the time. Neither his precise state of health, nor that of the policeman and the man he allegedly injured, was known with precision at the end of the evening.
The BEI assigned eight investigators to this case, supported by two forensic identification technicians from the Sûreté du Québec.
