President Joe biden ordered the Department of Defense to reverse a guide from the former president Donald trump that prohibited transgender people from serving in the Army.

The Democrat’s Executive Order indicates that any American qualified to serve in the Armed Forces may do so “entirely voluntarily.”

“President Biden believes that gender identity should not be an obstacle to military service and that America’s strength lies in its diversity.”, indicates the justification of the measure.

The current administration indicates that this action is part of the strategy of recognize “core values” of the US. and cites a study commissioned by the Department of Defense “found that allowing transgender people to serve openly in the military … would have only a minimal impact on military readiness and health care costs.”

President Biden’s order calls on the Army to prevent “involuntary separations, layoffs and denial of continuation of service on the basis of gender identity.”

It also requires an initial report from the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of National Security, to implement the directives and policies included in the Executive Order.

The ex-president Trump defended his decision to reject transgender people in the Army in 2019, stating that they took “excessive amounts” of drugs.

“These people take massive amounts of drugs, they have to do it, and it is not allowed in the Army”, it was justified. “I’m proud of them (transgender people), but you have to have a criterion and follow it, we have a great military service and I want to keep it that way.”
