Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine bridge-tunnel closed due to an accident

A man driving in the opposite direction on Highway 25 caused two collisions that forced the closure of the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine bridge-tunnel towards Montreal on Sunday evening.

It was in Longueuil that this vehicle struck a dump truck and a van which were heading in the right direction towards Montreal at around 8:00 p.m.

The driver of the offending vehicle was seriously injured. The man in his 20s was rushed to hospital where his life was in danger.

The Sûreté du Québec was unable to say where he started to drive in the opposite direction on Highway 25, but he allegedly used the tunnel before causing accidents at the exit of the section of the bridge on the Rive- South.

The driver of the van was slightly injured while the driver of the truck escaped unharmed.

The Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine bridge-tunnel to Montreal will be closed for several hours, according to the Sûreté du Québec.

Investigators were dispatched to the scene to shed light on this accident.
