One of the chiefs of the Mohawk Council of Kanesatake arrested for sexual assault

One of the chiefs of the Kanesatake Band Council was arrested on Wednesday for sexual assault.

The facts alleged against Victor Bonspille, 50, would have occurred in January 2020, almost a year ago.

An arrest warrant was issued against him on December 22.

According to our information, Bonspille himself went to a Sûreté du Québec (SQ) police station on Wednesday to surrender.

The SQ has not disclosed the identity of the victim in this case.

He was questioned by investigators, then released under a promise to appear on February 24 at the Saint-Jérôme courthouse.

He should then be formally charged with sexual assault.

Last October, Victor Bonspille brought a libel suit against the grand chef of Kanesatake, Serge Simon, as well as the chef Patricia Meilleur.

Bonspille claims $ 30,000 from Mr. Simon and $ 45,000 from Ms. Meilleur, whom he accuses of having publicly insulted and threatened him.
