Independent MP Harold LeBel was appearing this morning at the Rimouski courthouse. The 58-year-old politician is charged with sexual assault.
His arrest on December 15 caused a real shock wave in Rimouski and the National Assembly.
Harold LeBel faces a charge of sexual assault in connection with events that allegedly took place in 2017.
A publication ban protects the identity of the alleged victim.
He is represented by Maxime Roy, lawyer for former Deputy Prime Minister Nathalie Normandeau.
Harold LeBel confirmed in a press release two days after his arrest in December that he would continue to serve as an MP. He said he wanted to show “that he has nothing to be ashamed of”.
Harold LeBel was expelled from the Parti Québécois caucus hours after his arrest on December 15. He now sits as an independent member for Rimouski.
