Mikel Arteta has hinted that the priority in the January transfer window will be on offloading the fringe players within his Arsenal squad.
Fans are desperate for incomings this month, with the Gunners still marooned in the bottom half of the table.
Expectations have now also been increased, following three wins on the spin over the festive period.
Their most recent victory, a 4-0 thrashing of West Brom, put Arteta’s men just six points off the top-four, with more than half the season still remaining.
However, the Spaniard has suggested that allowing players to leave will be the main order of business this month.
Sead Kolasnic has already been moved on, joining Bundesliga side Schalke on loan, while William Saliba has joined Nice on a temporary deal.
But that doesn’t mean that incomings have been ruled out, as Arsenal look to continue their rise up the Premier League table.
Here’s the latest Arsenal transfer news.
Ozil ‘offered’ to Juventus
Mesut Ozil’s controversial Arsenal career continues to divide opinion, as the World Cup winner moves into the final months of his contract.
The German was left out of Arteta’s Premier League and Europa League squads after deeming him surplus to requirements.
Ozil has made it clear that he wishes to end his stay in north London on the pitch, but that appears more unlikely with every passing week.
According to CBS Sports, Arsenal bosses have offered Ozil to Juventus in the current window.
The report adds that currently, the Serie A champions are unwilling to sanction any deal, but the stance at the Emirates appears to be firmly in the camp of moving him on.
Arteta ‘expects’ signing
While Arteta and Edu continue to try and seal Ozil’s exit, reports claim there is still movement on a potential replacement.
A number of attacking midfielders have been linked with a move, with Real Madrid ’s Isco and Norwich City Emi Buendia both touted as potential targets.
Arteta has warned supporters to not anticipate major arrivals, particularly in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
Despite that, reports claim Arteta does expect at least one ‘quality midfielder’ to sign before the window ends.
Buendia urged to reject Gunners bid
Chris Sutton has told Emi Buendia to reject any potential approach from Arsenal, as he owes it to the Canaries to get them promoted back to the Premier League.
The Argentinian has been linked with a switch to the Emirates this month after impressing in the Premier League last season.
Buendia himself is said to be open to the move and should a bid materialise he will push for the Championship club to agree to it.
However, Sutton believes the playmaker should remain loyal, until at least the summer: “I would think the fact that Norwich showed great loyalty and faith in him (would convince him to stay).
“I think he was playing in a Spanish second division team. They have made him. They have turned him into the player and given him the profile which he has now.
“Extremely talented player. All I have to say is that he has to see this season through. He owes it to Norwich City.
“If I was in his shoes, I would see it through. I would get Norwich back to the Premier League then I would say ‘thank you very much, Norwich City, you have been great for me and I have been great for you.’. And then I’d go on way and everybody is happy.”
