Borat 2 star Maria Bakalova cries as she reconnects with on-screen babysitter
Maria Bakalova has revealed that she had an emotional phone call with on-screen babysitter Jeanise Jones after the ‘subsequent moviefilm’ was released.
The 24-year-old Bulgarian actress spent a portion of the film with a kind 62-year-old babysitter, who attempted to teach Tutar some poignant life lessons.
At the time, Jeanise was unaware that the footage was part of Borat’s latest movie and the unassuming star garnered huge praise for her amazing advice after the film’s release.
Speaking about her bond with Jeanise, Maria has since revealed that she still sees the star as her godmother.
The pair even exchanged a phone call on Thanksgiving and have forged a real human connection.
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Maria opened up about being overjoyed to re-connect after the movie had been released.
“Jeanise is a true angel,” Maria told the publication.
“I will probably always think of her as my godmother, a real hero and life coach. She just wanted to help this girl become a strong woman.
“We had a real human connection from the very first day we met. I called her on Thanksgiving: It was my first American Thanksgiving and was also my best.
Maria added that it was an emotional phone call and she was left in tears by the moving chat.
“I was so happy to talk to her that I started to cry.
“When we were shooting, it was very hard for me, because I wanted to tell her not to worry about me. She is a really good example of how important it is to be a good person and care about others,” Maria added.
Borat’s mockumentary sees the character and his daughter Tutar, 15, travel to the United States where she is set to be ‘offered’ to Vice President Mike Pence.
After the jaw-dropping film was released, Jeanise revealed that she was actually none the wiser about what she was actually starring in at the time.
“I’m thinking she’s really from a third-world [country] and that’s how they treat women and young girls,” Jeanise told Variety after the film.
The babysitter later added: “She had me good and fooled. She’s a darn good actress. She played her part very well.”
Having gained such popularity, a GoFundMe page has since been set up for Jeanise after it emerged that she hadn’t received much payment for her appearance in the film.
So far the fundraiser has amassed over $184,000 for Jeanise.
