Nine nuns at an upstate New York convent died from COVID-19-related causes in just over a month.

The convent is home to approximately 140 nuns. On December 11, the congregation reported that 22 religious sisters had tested positive for the coronavirus, according to a memorandum obtained NBC News.

A similar situation was reported in December at a Wisconsin convent, where eight elderly nuns died of complications from COVID-19 in the same week; four of them the same day.

Yesterday the US crossed the barrier of 20 million infections in the pandemic, which represents 24% of cases worldwide. So far it is the country with the most deaths: 357,235; most in New York (38,242).
