Netflix's Cobra Kai pays tribute onscreen to Karate Kid's Rob Garrison
Karate Kid star Rob Garrison has been honoured in the third series of Netflix’s Cobra Kai.
Familiar to fans as Tommy in the 1984 film, Rob was remembered onscreen during first episode of the third season of the show.
The words “Cobra Kai never dies” and the dates “1960-2019” appeared onscreen.
Rob, who reprised his role in season two of the hit spinoff series, died in September 2019 following a month long hospitalisation in West Virginia due to terminal kidney and liver failure.
In the 1984 film, Rob yelled the memorable line: “Get him a body bag, yeah!” as Johnny Lawrence, played by William Zabka, took on Daniel LaRusso, played by Ralph Maccio.
Rob’s acting career began as a child actor in the 1977 movie Starship Invasions before he landed a part in the 1984 classic film.
He had small roles in TV shows including MacGyver, Columbo and Coach, and films including The Pledge.
Following his death, Macchio paid tribute to his co-star: “Rob Garrison was a kind gentleman from the 1st day I met him to the last day we spoke.
“I am so glad he had the opportunity to show his range & genuine heart w/his performance last season on Cobra Kai .
“His campfire scene was of my favs of Season 2. RIP my friend. U will b missed.”
Rob had also been working as a restaurant manager in Wheeling, West Virginia prior to his death.
